We believe that with the appropriate supports and opportunities, people with Down syndrome can live a full meaningful life and have the right to be recognised as valued members of their own communities. Sligo in the West of Ireland. Our Committee is comprised of parents, siblings and carer

s/guardians of people with Down syndrome as well as other skilled volunteers who have an interest in supporting our work. We run regular public fundraisers and occasionally avail of small grants. We are a member of Down Syndrome Ireland, regulated by the Charities Regulator. We employ a part time Coordinator, Riona Rochford, who organises events and activities for our members and their families to promote socialisation, education and inclusion. Riona advocates on behalf of the branch and its members and generally keeps the branch and communication going. Riona is our main point of contact and can be reached on 086-4409596 or [email protected]

We run various social events for our members to meet up and for family members to share information and gain support. We hold regular meet ups around the county in coffee shops, parks and play centres. We offer weekyl online yoga classes run by an OT, and our adults meet up at a monthly pool club in the Embassy. Each summer we offer our members subsidised places in mainstream activities such as surf camps in Strandhill. In the past, we have organised activities including yoga, art, photography, computing, baby & toddler events and many types of sports activities. We liaise with other local branches of Down Syndrome Ireland and relevant agencies such as Sligo Sports & Recreation Partnership, the HSE/CDNT, community groups, sports club, the ETB, RehabCare, Sligo ATU, NLN etc. To enquire about becoming a member or getting involved, please get in touch. We have heard great things about the swim nappies and other adaptive clothing from this new Irish company. Started by a mum of a boy with DS and Autism, she needed pyjamas with a zip up the back to stop him un******ng at night, but this wasn't available in Ireland.
Check out their range: https://www.bornzippy.com/
