How rather than what.

Identifying and releasing old beliefs is the work. It’s increasingly important to focus on not only what you do but who you are.

What are you broadcasting? What’s the signal you’re transmitting?

Are your deep beliefs in alignment with what you say? Or is there a conflict? If you don’t know or can’t tell, the good news is that your body knows. You can always take this to your subconscious and find out.

Why should you? Because you could be sabotaging every effort you make without even realizing it. The guilt, the blame, the driving yourself harder thing… you don’t need to do that anymore. There’s another way.

It’s hard to rest and recover in a meaningful way during holidays if you’ve long ago lost access to your “off switch”.
It’s hard to rest and recover properly if at the back of your mind you know it’ll all be exactly the same again when you get back to work.

This year could be different. This summer could be different. You can break the pattern.

So many meaningful words were spoken at this beautiful event by wonderful people.
The ones that landed all the way to the bottom were:

“Have we become too narcissistic to read novels?”

Have we?
For someone like me who lives growth that’s a great question.
Do we spend enough time wondering into the world of another, through a story well told, and perhaps come out the other side with some new ideas, understandings, compassion or maybe just awe…
Do you read to simply wonder in without an agenda, or a goal for improving self… just to meet the characters? To witness an other world and way to live and think?

I don’t think I’ve been doing this enough lately. I’m so pleased to open my beautiful signed copy of Familiar. Hearing read the first chapter tonight was deeply touching and I can’t wait to meet the characters properly.

You are exhausting yourself trying to solve problems that do not exist yet.

Rehearsing conversations and predicting disasters.
Preparing for every possible outcome.
And your body responds as if it’s happening NOW. It cannot tell the difference between real and vividly imagined.

That’s one of the hidden roots of anxiety:
your nervous system mobilising energy for futures that haven’t arrived.

Most people think they need more control.
But what if the real shift is this:

Stop trying to know everything in advance.
Start trusting that you will know what you need to know WHEN you need to know it.

Constantly preparing for pain does not prevent pain.
It only prevents presence.

And eventually… your body pays the price.

Your mind might be living in tomorrow,
and your nervous system in an imagined emergency.

Pause for a moment and ask yourself:

“How much of my energy today is being spent on problems that are not actually here?”

That question alone can change everything.

You can be doing all the right things and still not be “open” to change.
You can’t receive and integrate change if you’re bracing against it.
Many high-functioning people are controlled and know how to contain themselves. From he outside this can look like great discipline while on the inside, there’s tension.
Tension creates resistance and blocks change.

If you keep doing the work but nothing really changes, it’s possible that you don’t need more effort.

This just fills my heart with so much joy 🙏🏻

Together we shall rise.
We will KNOW, not only believe, that we can feel better. That we can feel good right now.
Not when...
Now.

And when we don’t feel good, we know that all experiences are here to enrich and expand us and we know how to get back to a better feeling state and place.
Again and again. When ever we choose.

Our happiness can be and is unconditional. Because we welcome contrast. We welcome all that we feel.
We desire to live fully and deeply.

I’ve jokingly told my friends I’m a C-class parent before. And felt it to be true.

I’ve been filled with regret about the way I handled something with my cubs.

What I’ve come to understand is that my state pretty much determines the outcomes most of the time.

Learning parenting techniques and understanding what kind of parent I’d like to be has limited impact if my reactions to triggers are on autopilot and I simply have no capacity to give.

Good news is that by implementing just a few simple habits can start changing things around quickly.

Discovering how nervous system patterns play out and show up is key to being able to disrupt them or change them.

What’s the problem with attending to your boss immediately? If their urgency is your emergency without discernment or ability to pause to assess the situation then you’ll be leaking energy and time task switching at the very least.

Things are alright, you’re doing alright. Life’s working out and you go through the motions in a familiar fashion.

Are there enough joyful moments and belly laughs in the mix?
When did you and your kids last have a right old giggle together? The real lighthearted kind.

If it’s been a while, watch some funny cat videos together. And because it feels so good to laugh, maybe you can make a decision to start moving towards a different state of being one little move at a time.
