David Mc Gettigan: Pain & Movement Specialist

David Mc Gettigan: Pain & Movement Specialist Bigger Than Pain is a digital self-management platform for chronic and persistent pain, built by David Mc Gettigan. They are the people I love to help!

I am passionate about helping the people who have fallen through the cracks. The ones who have intermittent or chronically painful and restricted bodies. The people whose lives have quietly and gradually changed to be shaped by their symptoms. The people who bounce around from one practitioner to the next, from one type of therapy to the next. Gradually losing hope that they can overcome their sym

ptoms. Becoming less confident in their bodies and more fearful of what the future holds for them if their symptoms don't change. Because I was one of those people myself. Having suffered with back, hip, neck and foot pain for over a decade, I understand that it's so tough to find solutions on your own. Thankfully I was able to help myself via studying with wonderful educators and by educating myself. I am now healthy, pain free and confident that my body is not going to let me down. And my own quest for symptom relief has gradually developed into a passion for helping others to put the pieces of the puzzle together and achieve symptom relief too. Pain is complex and it is often really difficult to overcome it on your own. It is influenced by so many factors that it takes some time and joined-up-thinking about you, your movement, your previous injuries, your mindset and lifestyle to help you make progress. If you have just read about yourself in the paragraphs above, please get in touch, I'd love to help you out! E: [email protected]

I’ve had my sights firmly set on this since October last year after making contact with who kindly guided me towards the New Frontiers programme and I completed phase 1 in the early part of this year.

It was a competitive process to get in and I’m delighted to have been one of the 12 that have got a place on phase 2 of New Frontiers programme.

Looking forward to working with all the mentors from to help me build out the business plan out.

My clinic and client work is still ongoing and I’m buzzing to have this opportunity to develop Bigger Than Pain with expert guidance.

I will be sharing more news soon 👌🏻🙏🏼

I’ve been head down building this for the last 16 months.

Pouring all of my expertise into a digital self management platform for people with chronic pain.

The people who have failed to make progress through the conventional approaches the healthcare system offers - those are who this is built for.

The ones who don’t know where to turn to help themselves.

Think about it. 1-2 hours a month with a healthcare professional to help you with your pain. The other ~700 hours are on your own.

For some people the gap between appointments and support is even longer and some cannot even find a professional to help them with their symptoms in the first place.

Those gaps are where pain can slowly take over and thrive.

I’m sick of seeing “the top 5 exercises for back pain” or “the last stretch you’ll need for long term relief” all over social media. Each post contradicting the one that came before it.

Which leaves the person in pain more confused and further from help.

Bigger Than Pain is built to solve that.

Self Management of pain is achievable for everyone and it’s a process, not a promise. BTP is built on 16 years of supporting people with chronic pain in my clinics. It’s evidence based with 155+ research studies backing the content and it’s with you all week, every week.

We close that gap.

Pain shouldn’t be the biggest part of your life.
You should be.

PS > watch out for an exciting announcement about BTP later this week. Full launch later this year.

Here's the honest reality of running a practice on your own.

One person. Two clinic locations. Four young kids (including one-year-old identical twin girls). No matter how hard I try to stay on top of it, things used to slip. Messages waited too long. Replies sat in my drafts and never got sent. Not good enough, especially for the people who come to me having already struggled to make progress elsewhere.

So I built something to close that gap. It's saving me roughly 7-9 hours a week.

There's now a self-serve booking and rescheduling flow through my website. And it doesn't matter how you reach me. You can book on the site, email me, WhatsApp the clinic number, or leave a voicemail. Nothing gets missed. Everything gets actioned.

Anything clinical still comes straight to me, and it's always me replying.

I know this is "just admin," but it's also part of the trust and the experience. My job is to make the whole thing as friction-free as possible so you can focus on getting better.

This isn't pain content, but it's part of what helps someone trust the process and make real progress. Follow along if you'd like to learn more.

📘 JUST RELEASED: The Pain Recovery Roadmap

I think one of the most interesting patterns I’ve noticed after working with hundreds of people in pain (32 hours of clinic time just last week) is this:

Most people aren’t stuck because they don’t want to recover. They’re stuck because no one has shown them the complete roadmap they need.

It’s not that they’re doing anything wrong - they’re just missing some pieces of the puzzle.

That’s why I created this FREE resource that includes:

✅ How to identify your unique pain patterns (because everyone’s “unconscious storm” is different)
✅ A practical pacing framework that works with your life, not some idealised perfect schedule
✅ Techniques to transform the meaning behind your pain experience
✅ Weekly recovery blueprint + a framework for navigating flare-ups (speed bumps, not mountains!)
✅ Movement exercises to expand your load-sharing options starting TODAY

This isn’t just theory or another “quick fix” promise. It’s the same evidence-based framework I’ve used with clients who felt lost after bouncing between specialists and practitioners in the healthcare system.

I think it could be a game-changer for some of you (though as always, I recognise that everyone’s journey is different).

Remember: Your pain story isn’t your destination. Recovery isn’t about returning to who you were before pain. It’s about becoming Bigger Than Pain.

This is my favourite way to open up a stiff hip. Whether it’s post trauma/injury or arthritic change, I have found this exercise to help guide movement into the hip whilst also minimising the strategies the body uses to avoid moving the hip. pain

A client on Thursday asked me how I became so passionate about the work I do.

Thinking about that today inspired this post.

It’s funny how the things you one day despised and wished to be rid of completely, become the learning experiences that fuel the next chapters of your life.

I look back on my days of suffering with pain and Im human - I wouldn’t choose to go back there. Equally, I would not be who I am or where I am without those days and for that I am truly grateful.

Change can happen, it is hard work and it will take some time.
If you are struggling at the moment with pain, I know it is difficult. I’ve had my own version of that.

I also know that it can change and that even though it might seem difficult to think you can get there - it is possible.

DMs always open 🙏🏼
