🎉 a huge congratulations to our girl for achieving a fantastic double bronze 🥉🥉 at the All Ireland Championships.
🥉 u18 cadets
🥉 u23 juniors

In two hugely competitive categories, where six girls could have won gold, and many conrests went deep into golden score, she did herself immensely proud.
With this achievement she earned herself a place on the Irish National Squad

Congratulations Genevieve on a tough and brilliant year that saw you train and compete all over Europe in an effort to compete with the best in Ireland. You achieved your goal. Well done. Bring on 2026

The judo didnt turn out the way i wanted or envisioned, but such is life.

I was as ready as I could have been.
I gave a good account of myself....then I got smashed by a more skillful opponent! 🤯

That is judo.

It doesnt take anything away from the whole experience.
It was amazing to participate at the World Veterans Championships. It was brilliant having my good friend and my family with me. Thank you to them for their support.

Thank you to everybody at our club, for all the lovely messages ans well wishes.

Thank you to the Irish Masters Judo team for their support, and to head coach and coach Donal Tanamm especially. They put a huge amount of effort in and its deeply appreciated.

And thank you to my family and friends at home for the well wishes - I really appreciate it all ❤️

I wish all the remaining irish competitors the very best for the rest of the tournament. Éire abú 🇮🇪☘️

As for me, its time to eat, lick my wounds, heal myself and contemplate the next stage for me.

final preparations today....

A beautiful Sauna, Cold Plunges, breathwork and Visualisation.

all along ive been focused on being on the mats in Paris. that moment is about to arrive and I want to be fully prepared, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

physical - move your body to change your mind. the sauna and plunge is a superb way to get into your body. breathwork is a physical entrainment tool to tie all spokes of the week together.

mentally - visualising every second of the day

emotionally - feeling how I'll feel throughout the trip

spiritually - remembering why I am doing this. finding that deeper meaning in the pursuit, and then letting it go.

one week to the day since I sprained my ankle
4 weeks since I tore a my shoulder labrum
12 weeks post-medial meniscus tear.

all of them rehabbed
all of them ready to go!
Now its time to turn my attention fully on the judo

let's give this everything i've got!

Superior Labral Anterior to Posterior Tear or SLAP tear rehab. I started this phase after just one week at phase 1!

it took me only 3 weeks to get back to judo. Not that I was in perfect health, but 95% ROM was restored and strength was at 60% and I have a deadline to world championships.

this is phase 2 of the rehab process, and the first strength work I added to the mix.

1. tendon strength in a safe position
2. tendon strength at mid range
3. tendon strength in a challenged position.
4. strength through range of movement

notice the focus is on tendon strength, because thats what was weakened in the SLAP tear. this is different to muscle strength.

I could have (and maybe should have) started with isometrics, but honestly, I tried the pertubations and I was happier to start there.

in the end, it made it back on the mats for the irish open after 3 weeks. I won gold and the shoulder held up excellently.

now that pain-free movement and Pain-free stretching is restored, I've got to challenge the ligaments and ankle.

time for strength.

starting simply, I am standing on one leg for Balance and strength.

level one: standing only
level two: one leg plus juggling
(*juggling is to challenge movement and fun - it doesnt have to be juggling!)
level three: stand on one leg with eyes closed challenging my balance system more.

I'll do this as training several times a day AND I'll do it as I brush my teeth day and night - i find the handiest way to train rehab is to build it into your life !

even if you dont have to rehab your ankle, give this a shot, it'll be great to strengthen the feet and improve balance.

day one rehab.

acute phase of injury - and there's still stuff we can do to get better.

get in early with the right tools and you'll heal fast.

what did I do?
ASSESS for the weaknesses
COMPRESS for safety, and fluid dynamics
MOVE gently for nervous system, blood flow and to regain range of movement.

I'm 3 days down - Range is 90% restored. definitely still weak. back walking and loading tissues again - pain-free.

moral of the story: when you get injured, get to work so that you can get back to doing what you love ❤️

Judo Worrld Veterans Championships here we come

but the journey hasn't been without its ups and downs.

12 weeks out: a medial meniscus tear
4 weeks out: a torn shoulder labrum
10 days out: a sprained ankle

never have i had so many injuries in my life.

such is life and sport.

it doesnt matter. I'll be ready by doing the best that I can with what I have

Superb day out at the Irish Masters Judo Open. 🥋

Getting to share it with Joe was extra special -
Well done to him at his first ever Judo comp, bringing home the bling. 🥇

It was so much fun being out there, competing with people from Ireland, the UK and beyond. 🌍

Thank you to the Irish Masters Judo team, and all of his helpers for putting on a great day. 🇮🇪

Thank you to my fellow competitors for the losses, the wins ....and the dance itself.

4 wins, 1 loss...a good innings to prepare me for what's next.

Today, i feel like humpty dumpty being pieced back together again. The preparations for the world Masters has been brutal on me - torn meniscus, shoulder labrum and ankle ligaments. One of these was bad, 3 has been disastrous

However, I've been surprised by my ability to spring back so quickly - that is thanks to the rehab work I've put in over the years, the skills and tools I have for helping my body and mind, and the support I've gotten from fellow pros , , and

9 days to Paris - one last ditch effort to get me on the mats to show what I can do.

Lets go!
