πŸ’™ What a fantastic example of inclusion in action! πŸ’š

It was brilliant to see one of our leaders Fergal Turley getting out on the water at the Laois Inclusion Games Kayaking Session πŸ›Ά

This is exactly what inclusion is all about, finding ways to make activities accessible and giving everyone the opportunity to take part, try something new and enjoy the experience.

A huge well done to everyone involved in making this possible, including Laois Sports Partnership, Paddleworks.ie SVT Canoeing & Kayaking Club , Monasterevin Blueway Kayaking Club and VIP Hub

πŸ‘ Fantastic teamwork and a very special moment for Fergal. Hopefully the first of many adventures on the water! πŸ’™πŸ’š

πŸ‘“ **Fantastic News for People Living with Sight Loss**

We wanted to share a brilliant new initiative from Vision Ireland and Meta.

Meta is donating **15,000 FREE Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses** to Vision Ireland – enough for every blind and visually impaired adult supported by Vision Ireland. πŸ’™

These smart glasses can help people to live more independently by assisting with everyday tasks such as:

β€’ Reading text and signs
β€’ Identifying objects
β€’ Accessing information about their surroundings
β€’ Providing useful visual information while remaining hands-free

Even better, everyone receiving a pair will also have access to **training**, funded by Meta, to help them feel confident using the technology.

We would encourage any of our **OCIL Leaders who are blind or visually impaired** to have a look and **register their interest**.

This is a fantastic example of how technology can support greater **independence, choice and inclusion**. πŸ‘

πŸ‘‰ Register your interest here:

πŸ“š A huge congratulations to our Leader, Alison McEvoy! 🌟

We are absolutely delighted to see Alison featured in the Offaly Express following the publication of her debut novel.

Alison’s story is one of determination, resilience and following a dream despite the challenges she has faced along the way. To take the step from having an idea to actually writing and publishing a novel is an incredible achievement and something to be very proud of.

At OCIL, we are always proud to celebrate the achievements of our Leaders and the things that are important to them. Alison has certainly given us something very special to celebrate! πŸ‘πŸ“–

Congratulations Alison from everyone at OCIL, we wish you every success with your novel and hopefully this is only the beginning of your journey as an author! πŸ’™πŸ’›

🌊 What an incredible few days for our Leader David and his PA Des! β˜€οΈ

Thanks to a recent initiative from the Board of Directors of OCIL, David had the opportunity to plan his own alternative respite break and he certainly made the most of it!

The Board has allocated funding to give our Leaders more choice in how they use respite. It doesn’t always have to mean a traditional respite stay. It could be a few days away, a trip to the theatre, going to a match, attending a family occasion or event, or simply doing something they may otherwise face barriers in doing independently.

For David, that meant heading off to Waterford and staying in Tramore with David himself making the plans and deciding how he wanted to spend his time. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Staying at the Majestic Hotel, David and Des packed plenty into their few days the carnival, beach, miniature golf, the arcade, a paddle boat, great food and plenty of sunshine. They also enjoyed a beautiful cruise through Waterford City to King’s Island, learning about the history along the way. 🚒

But more than anything, this trip was about choice, independence and having control over how you spend your own time. For David, it was a chance to call the shots, enjoy a break away and make some brilliant memories.

And judging by the video, we think David planned a pretty great trip! 😊

A huge thank you to Des for supporting David to make it happen, and most importantly, well done to David for showing exactly what Independent Living is all about. πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸ“£ And to all of our OCIL Leaders – this funding is open to you too!

Any OCIL Leader can apply for Alternative Respite Funding. If there’s something you would love to do, somewhere you would like to go, or an experience you would like to enjoy with the support of your PA, we would love to hear your ideas.

Simply contact [email protected] or call 085 8894828 for an application form and we’ll be very happy to help you with the application and planning.

After all, respite should be about what works for you.πŸ’™πŸ’›
