Cycling without Age initiative, Lough Boora Discovery Park
Healthy Offaly and their partners BnM and Cycling without Age are pleased to announce the roll out of the Cycling Without Age initiative in Lough Boora Discovery Park which is a worldwide movement that aims to provide joy and vitality to all through the magic of Trishaw bicycle rides.
The Trishaw bicycle is available to use ‘free of charge.’ It offers older adults and those with mobility issues the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Lough Boora Discovery Park surrounds in a comfortable easy pace while being chauffeured around by a volunteer pilot.
The Trishaw can accommodate two passengers and has a powerful electric motor to assist with the effort of pedalling. It also has a retractable footrest to allow for easy entry for those with mobility issues. The service is currently live and is offered through a volunteer programme with the local community. Pilots who have completed the training session supply their contact details to Lough Boora and are then included on a WhatsApp group for the purpose of making a booking or responding to a call for volunteers to make themselves available to take out a group on the predetermined 5K Sculpture Route in Lough Boora Discovery Park. The Trishaw is currently available for use and passenger bookings can be made by contacting [email protected].
On Thursday 6 November 2025 Offaly Sports Partnership staff availed of an opportunity to become trained up in the operation of the Trishaw. Donal Collins, a certified Cycling Without Age Trishaw Trainer took the Sports Partnership team through the safe deployment of the Trishaw. To date, Healthy Offaly has supplied funding for a storage shed for the Trishaw and additional funding for a second wheelchair compatible trishaw, due to be purchased in the coming weeks.
Healthy Offaly and Offaly Sports Partnership would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to BnM and Donal Collins for facilitating our staff training in the correct and safe operation of the Trishaw.

We are delighted that parkrun is back on the Grand Canal Way in Tullamore this Saturday November 9th - join us to celebrate our 3rd birthday 🎊 Big thanks to Flynns Bakery for donating a cake, it's very generous of you and really appreciated 👏 We will also have some pacers running on the day and a parkwalker as well.

If you are driving on Saturday, please park in the car park on the Daingean Rd. and allow a little time for crossing over the canal. The safety briefing is at 9.25 and we will be starting promptly at 9.30. Children under 11 must be within arm's reach at all times, and dogs must be on a short, handheld lead.

And most importantly, don't forget your barcode! See you there 😊
