Yin yoga is a slow form of yoga that works to gently stretch the joints and fascia. It is also deeply relaxing, increasing energy flow throughout the body and calming the mind. Each pose is held for a number of minutes while your body softly “melts”, allowing the joints and fascia to gently release. Props such as bolsters, blocks and straps are provided to make the poses available even to those with tight muscles or restricted joints.
Each class starts with a short breathing (pranayama) session to settle the body and mind. We then work through a series of poses, using the props to help you find a stretch that you can feel yet can sustain for a period of time. (This is called “finding your edge”.) We hold in the pose for 3-5 minutes, then rest in savasana (co**se pose) for about 1 minute between poses to allow the body to recover. The class ends with a longer rest in savasana, leaving you feeling completely relaxed.
For Yin Yoga, you'll need a blanket and cushion as well as your mat - all other props are provided. Please arrive at least 5 mins before class to set up your mat so we're ready to start on time.
