Sepsis is the body's extreme response to an infection. Pregnancy causes changes in your immune system that make you more likely to get infections.
Know the signs and don't be afraid to ask 'could it be sepsis?'

Today is National EMS Day.

A reminder that some people run toward the emergencies everyone else is running from.

They show up on the worst days of people’s lives.
The car accidents.
The overdoses.
The heart attacks.
The terrifying moments when someone’s world changes in seconds.

And somehow…
they stay calm through all of it.

EMS workers miss holidays.
Skip meals.
Work exhausting hours.
Carry trauma most people will never see.
And still continue showing up to save strangers every single day.

So today, thank the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and first responders who answer calls most of us pray we never have to make.

Because behind every siren is someone trying to save a life.

May Bank Holiday Weekend Water Safety Appeal.

The Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and The RNLI reminds the public to think, prepare and stay safe on the water.

With the current spell of warm weather, everyone planning coastal visits or activities on, in, or near the water is reminded to make safety their priority. Know the local hazards of the area you are visiting. Always supervise children on the sand and in the water. Preparation is key to having an enjoyable and safe day out.

One hazard to watch out for is a Rip Current. These currents can occur in aquatic areas and it is important to educate yourself and your family how to recognise these hazards. Personal responsibility by reading warning signage and having all the information you need on local hazards before going in or on the water is vital.

How to recognise a rip current:
• A channel of churning, choppy water
• An area having a notable difference in water colour
• A line of foam, seaweed, or debris moving steadily seaward
• A break in incoming wave pattern

This is the sign for known Rip Currents present in an area. Look at signage in advance before proceeding.
