The amount of information a lactation consultant has to share is endless and fascinating. We had just a small taste of this in the Birth As A Journey Doula Schoola last week . Thank you Adina Kopinsky IBCLC for once again teaching us some tips on how to support a mother on her journey in breastfeeding. Most important tip, feed the baby - breast or bottle, no judgement. Another tip: get professional support from a lactation specialist.

Because this training is more than learning how to support birth.
It’s a journey into presence.
Into deep listening.
Into understanding the wisdom of the body and the transformation that birth invites.

Over months together, we learn hands-on skills, birth physiology, emotional support, embodied practices, communication, touch, and the sacred art of holding women through one of the most powerful thresholds of their lives.

But something else happens too.
A sisterhood forms.
Being a doula can be lonely and having a network of women who “get you” and speak the language you were taught (the language of the labyrinth…) helps you integrate what you just went through.

This is a course first and foremost for you. And women often discover parts of themselves they had forgotten were there. Whether you have given birth yourself or not, it is irrelevant. Confidence deepens with experience in fine tuning and listening deeply with your ears, your belly and your heart.

In uncertain times like these, we search for consistency . What has helped me is having a yoga practice . I began a 3 year teacher training program a few weeks after October 7, and it’s been one amazing journey, a solid rock in these crazy years. We’ve met weekly as a group: practicing meditation, pranayama, and asanas. Usually, in the studio, but sometimes it’s had to be on zoom and sometimes like today, in the bomb shelter. My main gift that I got was a consistent home practice. Every single day I light my candle and get on my mat and this is how I stay sane ; relatively…

מאז המלחמה אני אישית מקבלת המון כוח מהתרגול של היוגה. יותר מ 20 שנה אני מעבירה שיעורים לנשים בהריון. זה היה העוגן שלי כל ההריונות שלי והבנתי כמה זה ממלא ועוזר. אני עדיין פוגשת את היעוד שלי בשיעורים האלה… לתמוך בנשים בתקופה של הריון זה זכות גדול. וכן, יש גם שיעורים לנשים בלי קשר להריון…🙏💃🏻🙏 #לידהכמסע #יוגהלנשיםבהריון

Gila was our amazing guest last week in the Birth as a Journey doula course. Lots and lots of interesting stories from a very passionate midwife! Talked about the microbiome - newborn babies get their first microbiome from their mothers during birth. Talked about the difference between pitocin in labor or after delivery. Talked about how the doula navigates humbly in the delivery room. Talked some truth about the monitor. It was as usual a great pleasure and learning experience having Gila … Talk about positive energy!!!
