We wanted to highlight an incredible Hadassah leader: Bertukan Zerihun, Head Nurse of the Pediatric Department at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem.

Bertukan leads one of Jerusalem’s busiest pediatric departments, guiding a team of 44 nurses while supporting children and families through some of their most difficult moments.

During the recent measles outbreak, she helped expand specialized care units, advocated for public health awareness before the Knesset, and continued leading with strength, compassion, and purpose.

Her leadership philosophy says it all:
“Nothing is too hard. You can always find a solution.”

From immigrant child to nursing leader, Bertukan’s story is a powerful reminder of the dedication, resilience, and humanity that make Hadassah so extraordinary.

We wanted to share the story of a new olah chadasha from South Africa who chose to begin her oncology residency at the Sharett Institute of Oncology at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem.

Dr. Kawalsky's path to oncology began with a deeply personal experience. Her grandmother's diagnosis with colon cancer transformed medicine for Tarryn into something entirely different, not just science, but also compassion, human connection, and commitment. From that moment, she felt a growing desire to understand the disease more deeply and to be there for patients on their journey.

The field closest to her heart is women's health - and in particular gynaecological malignancies, a specialty she hopes to make the focus of her professional and academic career.

Her determination to support women beyond the clinic led her to co-found The Ovarian Club podcast, a platform dedicated to raising awareness of women's health through evidence-based insights.

We are delighted to welcome her as part of our multidisciplinary team and wish her five years of rich, meaningful training.

"Oncology is so much more than science. Being there for a patient in the hardest moments of their life, seeing them as a whole person – that is the real reason I chose this field." Dr. Tarryn Kawalsky
