VVision Retreat with Anat Axelrode & Nathan Oxenfeld

In 3 weeks, I’m heading to New York to give a lecture at an international conference for vision improvement teachers, and two days later, I’ll be leading a 3-day retreat with my friend and colleague from the US, Nathan Oxenfeld. VVision Retreat with Anat Axelrode & Nathan Oxenfeld
So the excitement is at its peak, not to mention that my book is being translated into English and will be available on Amazon in a week, just in perfect timing.

So if you're spontaneous and have acquaintances in the US who might be interested in the retreat, you’re invited. The link is in the comments below.

Nathan is a wonderful teacher and very active. He has the successful podcast 'The Naked Eye,' where I was also a guest, and he is one of the creators of the documentary film on vision improvement, 'Beyond 20/20.' and he is involved in many other fantastic projects.

At the retreat, Nathan will share his knowledge from the Bates Method and eye relaxation and beneficial vision habits, while I will focus on the internal/emotional/psychological aspects of conversing with the eyes. A perfect combination.

And all of this in a beautiful location surrounded by nature, an hour and a half drive from Manhattan

You are welcome to drop by :-)

Fire, Water and Eyes
Have you ever noticed that whatever you focus on gets larger, regardless if it's good or bad?
When we focus on fire, we expand it (even if our focus is on minimizing the fire).
When we focus on water, the flames will subside. It's very simple.
--------------------------------------------------
It's the same process when it comes to our eyes and our vision:
If we focus on our blurred vision, it will expand.
If we focus on the pain and discomfort in our eyes, we will experience more pain and discomfort.

But, if we focus on how much we can see, and that our eyes do a wonderful, amazing job despite all the difficulties,
Then… our eyes will start feeling better, and seeing better.
Let's focus on what we want,
And less on what we want to get rid of.

What do the eye doctor or optometrist's diagnoses do to us?
And can we heal from them?

Sometimes I think it's harder to get rid of the diagnosis than the actual problem.
It's so hard to change one's perspective,
to see that the problem can be improved
or be cured.

A scholarly doctor (or perhaps a notable specialist) tells you that what you have can't improve, so he's probably right.
Three optometrists have said it's a lost cause, so surely there's no hope.
The scans show you have ______ so there's nothing you can do.

Sometimes I'm really grateful that my knowledge in ophthalmological medicine is relatively modest.
I'm glad I didn’t learn that crossed-eyes can't correct themselves after the age of five.
I'm glad I didn't learn that retinal diseases can't improve without injections,
that intraocular pressure can't improve without drops/surgery. That nearsightedness and far-sightedness and astigmatism can't improve. I'm really happy I didn't learn that a lot of things are incurable.

Because of the fact that I didn't learn these things, and also because of my experience talking and working with thousands of pairs of eyes, I learned that everything can be healed.

But as long as we hold on to the notion, that what we have is incurable, healing will not occur.

Healing will happen when we open ourselves up to new possibilities. Maybe there are things the doctor does not know… Maybe my body has the ability to heal itself completely. Maybe there are many healing examples around us, (and there are) that science cannot explain.
Experiences that would be called "miracles".
Maybe it's all possible,
even though we don't know how or why.

So should we go to the doctor?
I am often confronted with the question whether to go to the doctor or not, to receive a diagnosis.

On the one hand, of course you should go, doctors sometimes save a person from going blind… and they have immense knowledge and research, and much experience.
On the other hand, will I be able to heal after I get a diagnosis? After they tell me how incurable or hard it is to get better.

Sometimes it's easier to heal when we believe that what we have is easy and simple to cure
It's like when we get sick with the flu. We know we'll (usually) be fine and heal from it. We believe it's easy and there's no doubt we'll get through it. However it's a totally different situation if we receive news that we have cancer.
Perhaps the best option would be to go to the doctor, and to remember that not everything he or she says is "incurable", actually is.

Sometimes even after we've decided to get alternative help, we still believe the idea that it's "impossible". Many people that I treat talk a lot about why their situation cannot be improved. So I would like to suggest concentrating on what is "possible" and to let go of the "impossible"
Because then anything is possible

Dogs, Games, and Eyes
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is my dear dog, Kush, with her friend, 'Kaduri'.
Whenever I have a burst of love towards her and I start hugging her and showering her with my loving words,
she gets all wound up and starts running frantically looking for her 'Kaduri'

'Kaduri' is a round, worn out, five year old doll, and she is Kush's favorite game.

How is any of this connected to our eyes?
Over the years I've discovered that whenever we speak to our eyes, something similar happens to them:

Each time we see them, understand them and especially when we love them, they are happy, they get excited and immediately want to move and play.
Just like Kush.

So my suggestion is to reverse the order:
Don’t force your eyes to exercise.
First you should meet them and love them, and then… they will naturally want to move and play.

Play with what you ask? Come find out!

The thing I love most in the world
is holding eyes.

In the midst of a conversation with them, I ask them if I can come be with them and hug them (In my imagination). I hold them without trying to figure anything out, help or change anything.

I just hold them.
Just as you would hug a frightened child,
Or hold a person in pain,
Or hold a person who is in deep despair, feeling helpless or confused.
The way you would hold someone that is angry.

How pleasant it is to love like this…
How fulfilling, and healing it is for the eyes.

The Trauma of Success
In this post I would like to address successful eye surgery, and the initial trauma that accompanies this success.

Eye surgery, such as cataract surgery or laser eye surgery, has very good results.
Most of the patients experiencing these types of surgery are extremely satisfied with their results.

I usually write about the problems with having eye surgery or what not to do.
However, this time I'd like to write to those of you who have gone through (or are intending on going through) this type of operation and received very good results. And It's very exciting, and finally you can see the light, and read etc…

But something very dramatic has just taken place. The eyes have gone through a radical transformation: Perhaps the eye that was once weak suddenly sees perfectly, Maybe even better than the stronger eye.

And maybe the eye that used to be the leader is having trouble cause now she is #2.

It may be fun to have all this light and clarity, but sometimes it's just too much. Perhaps there are situations in which we would prefer not to see, but that’s not possible anymore.

The body must integrate and process the change that has happened, and so must the soul/spirit.
Such a dramatic and sudden change in our sight has a dramatic affect on the psyche. It's as if someone suddenly changed something inside of us, without prior notice… This can be a very traumatic experience.

This is why it is extremely important to be very gentle and compassionate towards ourselves after these types of surgery. We must understand that we need time to adjust to our new reality.

It's ok that the joy and relief following the surgery are mixed with sadness or confusion.

Possibly the most helpful thing to do is to speak to the eyes before surgery and even more after surgery. Celebrate with them and also listen to their difficulties.
Hug them with a lot of love. And that’s it… just shower them, and yourself, with love and compassion.

This is emotionally very helpful, and it really helps the eyes recover and heal from the surgery.

The Generous Eyes
Once there was a boy and the boy had eyes
The boy loved his eyes and the eyes loved him

When the boy turned seven he started seeing things that brought him pain. He saw his parents fighting, he saw adults around him saying one thing but meaning another, he saw people that he felt unsafe around, and in addition to that he was forced to let them kiss him at his parents' request. He just saw too much.

And then his eyes told him, we will help you, we will make the world blurry and hazy for you. And then you won't have to see all those painful things.
We will distort ourselves a bit, for you.

And then the boy started to see things out of focus,
and the eyes were happy.

When the boy started high-school he said to the eyes
"I'm not good enough. I can't succeed in reaching the level I want in English, I need to try harder, otherwise I'm worthless"
"We'll help you" said the eyes. "For you, we'll strain ourselves, and distort ourselves a bit more."

And the eyes continued to strain, and the blurriness grew.
And the eyes were happy.

When the boy reached the age of 30, he started working in the high-tech industry.
Working 10 hours a day in front of the computer. It was very tense and he was always stressed by his boss and colleagues.
It was really hard on the eyes. The boy started feeling discomfort in his eyes.
But the eyes were determined to help the boy, they saw how much he was suffering there, how it wasn't the right place for the boy, how unhappy he actually was.

So they decided to help him, and they developed a serious eye disease, so that the boy could wake up, leave his job and go back to being happy.

And the eyes were very sick.
And the eyes were happy (but a bit less)

Then, the boy stopped the rat race, and started talking to his eyes.
He sat beside them and saw their pain and wisdom. He sat and wept.

And the eyes began to feel much better.
The boy saw the wisdom in his eyes, he saw the path shown to him and he started walking that path.

And the eyes were happy

Travel, Vacation, Nature and Sight
Or - Why are screens bad for us and what is the opposite of screens?

We are in front of screens all day…
The kids, and us.

And our eyes?
What will happen to them?

It can be said that staring at the screen
(on a computer, tablet or smartphone)
Is, in essence, the worst thing we can do to our eyes.

This is what happens to our eyes when we're in front of the screen:
• There is no change in focus, (near or far) and as a result there is a degeneration of the lens and the muscle that moves it (ciliary muscle)

• We don't move our eyes (why would we?)
And we know that a muscle that doesn’t move weakens… and it also accumulates additional stress.

• There is no use of our peripheral vision
(meaning - that whatever is outside the frame of the screen doesn’t interest us)
And this leads to central vision overload…
And our world is reduced more and more in every aspect…

And for dessert. We don't have enough exposure to daylight 
_____

Here is a magical solution for all these scary things :
Being in nature… Walking In nature
So simple, yet genius…

Then naturally,
• The eyes change their focus, and move much more
• We extend the use of our peripheral vision
(A bird flying above us or a cloud in the sky, abundant daylight. All can stimulate the peripheral cells of the retina)

• Add that to the fact that if we're out in nature we're taking more than ten consecutive steps…
The blood flows well and our breath deepens…
The body releases stress, as does the mind…

• To conclude, Eyes that look at nature
(reenery, views, beauty, endless outdoor space)
Will be healthier and happier.
____
To End:
Being outdoors and in nature is one of the most important "eye exercises"! It's more of a passive exercise, where all you have to do is go out and enjoy yourself.

May we learn to see the good… really good

You know how sometimes you go to an ophthalmologist or an optometrist and you have an examination you get a certain number, and then for some other reason you go get a second opinion and then you get another number?

People usually think that one of them (the ophthalmologist or the optometrist) is inaccurate, unprofessional, etc.

Well, let me tell you what's going on here - our eyesight keeps changing!
It's not a mistake, it's our eyes – they constantly change.
The eye is not static and even an eye whose structure has changed (as it happens with short-sightedness), can change back…

You can see it especially with children: if the examining doctor is scary, or if one of the parents is especially worried about the examination results, this stress will immediately affect the child's eyesight and he or she can see worse even by several numbers.

We grown-ups are also affected: the more anxious we are about the results, the worse we will see (on the examination itself).
And of course, every mood has an impact. When we are angry or happy, when we are depressed or excited – every feeling affects our eyesight immediately.

How can it be that Western eye medicine hasn't woken up yet to realize this basic phenomenon?

About dry eyes and healing tears:

I wanted to tell you a few things about our tears, and how irreplaceable they are.

The tears are actually a fluid containing 3 wonderful ingredients: fat, water with minerals and protein, and mucus.

This rich fluid constantly 'coats' the exterior of the eye. The eye is being kept wet all the time (that is why our eyes sparkle).

It's true, when we cry, there is a big secretion of tears into the eyes, but this is a rare occasion (for some more, for some less :-) ), and the rest of the time the secretion is small and on a regular basis, and it happens every time we blink.

Blinking is like some kind of car wiper: every time we blink, there is a secretion of fluid into the eye and the eyelid wipes it and spreads it evenly across the eye. Wonderful.

The tears' fluid is a magical one:

It cleans the cornea, it evacuates waste, it supplies oxygen to the cornea (that has no blood vessels to do it), it protects from infections (it contains anti-bacterial materials), it keeps the cornea moist and… pay attention: it catalyzes healing processes. Other than making coffee, it can really do anything! :-)

What happens when there are no tears? It's annoying, it hurts, it really disrupts our quality of life, and it can also cause some long term damage.

Because it's intolerable and because of the fear of infections, we are easily recommended to use eye drops to replace the tears.

Eye drops cannot replace our tears. They can only provide some relief.

The truth is, eye drops only make our eyes dryer and using them only makes us more dependent upon them. Whoever tried to stop using eye drops knows it's very difficult, because the dryness is bigger than before.

So, what can you do?

You can listen to the eyes. There is a reason for the dryness in the first place. The reason is almost always an internal-emotional one.

Dry eyes are eyes in distress, asking for help.

Maybe it is a result of stress and anxiety, maybe due to a continuous sense of overload, maybe there is some issue in life that won't "let go" of me and is troubling me, or maybe it is a constant effort to succeed and be good, which leads to exhaustion…

When we listen to the eyes and find the emotional source, when we heal the reason at the root, our eyes go back to being wet, healthy and happy, without eye drops, surgery, or other medical 'procedures'. Just like that, the tears reappear, the dryness disappears, and the relief is great.

Hallelujah!

What I love most is when my clients improve their eyesight without doing any exercise at all, just by talking to their eyes and releasing something internal.

Don't get me wrong, the exercises are great, and sometimes they are very important and useful. But there is no greater healing than healing from the inside.

What is this internal thing causing our poor eyesight, our eye disease or the effort in our eyes?

In Listening to the Eyes, this is our expertise – to uncover the exact reason and cure it on the deepest level, not relating only to the symptoms.

Come and find out what your eyes have to say.

Those videos are in Hebrew, but they are great:
