In Ayurveda, our feet are directly connected to the nervous system. When we neglect them, we miss out on a powerful off-switch for daily stress. Massaging your feet before bed sends an immediate signal of safety to your body—shifting you out of fight-or-flight mode so deep, restorative healing can begin.
If you want deeper sleep, calmer evenings, and a naturally glowing complexion, this simple 5-minute ritual is your answer.
🪵 How to Practice Foot Oiling (Padabhyanga)
When: Nightly, right before bed (ideally after washing your feet). Aim for daily, or at least 3–4 times a week.
The Method: Warm your chosen oil slightly. Apply a few drops to your soles and massage slowly for 5–7 minutes.
With a Kansa Wand: Use gentle, grounding circular movements. Focus closely on the center of the sole, the heel, and the arch.
With Your Hands: Use your thumbs and palms to make slow circles and long strokes. Gently pull each toe before finishing.
Post-Ritual: Wait 10–20 minutes before sleeping. Put on cotton socks if needed, and strictly avoid screens to let your nervous system fully settle.
💧 Choosing Your Oil
Sesame Oil: The universal Ayurvedic favorite. Best for calming anxiety, restlessness, dryness, and poor sleep.
Ghee: Perfect for individuals who naturally feel hot and dry rather than cold.
Coconut Oil: Ideal for very hot climates and soothing a strong Pitta constitution.
