👁️ Why can cylindrical power increase after LASIK?

A patient came for evaluation with an increase in cylindrical power after LASIK.

Not every change in spectacle power after LASIK means that the surgery has “failed.” Changes in the corneal shape, healing response, residual refractive error, dry eye, or—in some cases—corneal weakening (post-LASIK ectasia / Keratoconus) need to be carefully evaluated.

This patient developed Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus (HZO) with keratitis and is currently under treatment.

With appropriate treatment and regular follow-up, the corneal inflammation is settling and the patient is recovering well.

👁️ She came looking for surgery. She left with contact lenses—and a smile. 😊

This patient had advanced keratoconus with corneal scarring involving the visual axis and initially came to us hoping for a surgical solution.

But sometimes, the best treatment isn't surgery.

After a detailed corneal evaluation, we fitted her with specialty contact lenses, and she is now seeing much better and is extremely happy with her vision. 👁️✨

This is why treating the patient—not just the scan—is so important.

💧 Eyes are watering all the time… but you still have dry eyes?

It sounds strange, but watery eyes can actually be a symptom of dry eye disease.

When the ocular surface is irritated or damaged, the eye can produce reflex tears in an attempt to protect itself. These tears may provide temporary relief, but they don't necessarily mean the eye is properly lubricated.

If you've been using multiple eye drops for chronic dry eye but still have burning, irritation, fluctuating vision, or constant watering, there may be an underlying ocular surface problem that needs to be evaluated.

Don't just keep adding more drops. Find out why your eyes are watering.
