Real Independence 🇮🇳

We celebrate India’s political independence, but true independence goes much deeper. As long as we remain controlled by our desires, tendencies, material conditioning and temporary designations, we are not truly free. The Bhagavad-gītā reminds us that our real identity goes beyond these temporary labels. Our eternal identity is that of servants of Kṛṣṇa.

Even after decades of political freedom, traces of our colonial past can still influence the way we think, live and define progress. At times, we look outside our own spiritual and cultural heritage for inspiration, while India’s traditions hold a vast wealth of wisdom. True cultural independence invites us to reconnect with this heritage and allow its timeless values to shape our lives once again.

When we turn towards Kṛṣṇa, chant His holy names, study the Bhagavad-gītā and cultivate values such as humility, self-discipline, compassion and devotion, we gradually become free from the influence of material nature.

Political freedom gave us independence from external rule.
Dependence on Kṛṣṇa gives us freedom within.

This Independence Day, let us rediscover what it truly means to be free. 🪷

Overcoming The Dualities 🪷

Physical dualities: Heat & Cold, Pleasure & Pain, Friendship & Enimity, etc.

Mental dualities: Happiness & Distress, Victory & Defeat, Praise & Criticism, etc.

Lord Krishna, in the Bhagavad Gita advices to overcome these dualities to reach the perfectional stage of life. Now how does that happen?

Lord Patanjali (just another expansion of the Lord) states in his Yoga Sutras,
ततो द्वन्द्वानभिघातः | (2.48)
(Tato dvandvānabhighātaḥ)
When the Asana is perfected, the practitioner is no longer affected by dualities such as cold and heat, hunger and thirst, or gain and loss.
