Doctor, Ayurvedic medicines never expire… right?
That’s one of the biggest myths I hear in [Ayurveda awareness] conversations.
Just because a medicine is herbal or natural doesn’t mean it lasts forever. Like modern medicines, [Ayurvedic formulations] also have a definite [shelf life of Ayurvedic medicines] and expiry date.
Classical Ayurveda itself mentions that medicines lose their “Veerya” — or therapeutic potency — over time. Powders can absorb moisture, herbal jams may spoil, oils can turn rancid, and decoctions lose effectiveness if improperly stored.
This is why understanding [Ayurvedic medicine expiry] and proper storage is such an important part of [authentic Ayurveda] and [herbal medicine safety].
Yes, some classical preparations like Asava and Arishta may mature differently under controlled conditions — but that does not mean every Ayurvedic medicine improves with age.
“Natural” does not mean immortal.
Authentic Ayurvedic medicines carry manufacturing and expiry dates for a reason. Because safety, potency, and proper storage matter in Ayurveda just as much as they do in modern medicine.
Ayurveda is a science of medicine — not blind belief.
