A lipid profile and HbA1c can both provide useful information when looking at cardiovascular health — but they measure different things.
A lipid profile looks at cholesterol and triglyceride patterns. HbA1c provides an indication of average blood glucose over roughly the previous 2–3 months.
Neither result replaces the other.
High cholesterol and diabetes can both contribute to cardiovascular risk, which is why clinicians may consider these results alongside factors such as blood pressure, age, smoking and family history.
Preventive testing isn’t about ordering every available test. It’s about understanding which information is relevant to your individual risk profile.
Ask your clinician which preventive tests are appropriate for your age, medical history and risk factors.
