Chronic pain is one of the most misunderstood things in medicine. When you’ve been in pain for months, sometimes years, that threat system gets sensitised. It starts firing earlier, louder, more often.
The good news is that systems that change in one direction can change in the other.
Chronic pain is not a life sentence. But it does need a different approach than acute pain, preferably one that addresses the nervous system, not just the tissue.
