Pain-free after G*E? Can you simply go back to your routine and forget about your knee?

Not quite.

G*E can give you significant pain relief, but it is not a one-stop solution for osteoarthritis.

Once the pain is under control, good physiotherapy becomes even more important. Maintaining the muscles around your knee helps support the joint and can significantly slow down the progression of osteoarthritis.

A healthy lifestyle, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling conditions like diabetes, and taking medications when advised by your orthopaedic surgeon all play a role too.

Think of G*E as one important part of your osteoarthritis pain-relief program, not the end of it.

Your brain depends on healthy carotid arteries every second. Are yours at risk?

The carotid arteries are the main blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood to your brain. When these arteries become narrowed due to plaque buildup, the risk of a stroke increases significantly. The good news is that early detection and timely treatment can help prevent serious complications.

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a history of smoking, or have experienced symptoms such as sudden weakness, difficulty speaking, or temporary vision loss, don't ignore these warning signs.

Protecting your brain starts with protecting your blood vessels. A simple evaluation today can make a life-changing difference tomorrow.

Leg pain while walking isn't always due to ageing it could be reduced blood flow.

If you're experiencing pain in your legs while walking, numbness, slow-healing wounds, or cold feet, it may be a sign of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). Ignoring these symptoms can increase the risk of serious complications.

As a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, I often recommend Leg Artery Angioplasty for suitable patients. This minimally invasive procedure helps open blocked or narrowed arteries, restore healthy blood flow, relieve symptoms, and improve mobility without the need for major surgery.

Early diagnosis and timely treatment can help protect your limbs and improve your quality of life. If you have persistent leg pain or circulation problems, don't delay getting evaluated.

Still noticing bulging veins after pregnancy? Don't assume they'll disappear on their own.

Pregnancy places extra pressure on the veins in your legs, making varicose veins a common concern for many women. While some veins may improve after delivery, persistent swelling, aching, heaviness, or visible bulging veins should not be ignored.

As a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, I encourage new mothers to have persistent varicose veins evaluated. An early assessment can help identify underlying vein problems and guide the right treatment before symptoms worsen.

You don't have to live with discomfort simply because it's common after pregnancy. The right diagnosis is the first step toward healthier, pain-free legs.

Not every painful knee needs surgery. And not every patient is the right candidate for Genicular Artery Embolization (G*E).

One of the most common questions I hear is whether G*E works for every stage of osteoarthritis. The answer is no.

G*E is most effective for patients with Stage 2 or Stage 3 knee osteoarthritis who continue to experience pain despite physiotherapy, medications, or joint injections. It helps reduce inflammation by targeting the abnormal blood vessels around the knee, providing meaningful pain relief and improving daily function.

If your knee is in the early stage, conservative treatment is usually enough. If the joint is completely worn out, knee replacement remains the best option.

The key is choosing the right treatment for the right stage.

If persistent knee pain is affecting your quality of life, a proper evaluation can help determine whether G*E is the right option for you.

Your blood vessels work silently until they don’t.

A blocked artery doesn’t always begin with severe pain. Sometimes it starts with a calf ache while walking, a wound that refuses to heal, a sudden cold limb, or even a brief episode of slurred speech or vision loss. These warning signs should never be ignored.

On this National Vascular Day, take a moment to understand what your body may be trying to tell you. Early diagnosis can prevent limb loss, stroke, and other life-threatening complications.

Healthy blood flow is essential for every organ. If something feels unusual, don’t wait for it to become an emergency.

Your vascular health deserves timely attention.

Your dialysis access can determine how smoothly your treatment journey begins. Don't wait for an emergency to make this decision.

As a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, I often see patients who come in only when urgent dialysis is needed. By then, the safest and most effective access options may be limited.

Planning your dialysis access early gives you the best chance for a well-functioning access, fewer complications, and a smoother dialysis experience. Whether it's an AV Fistula, AV Graft, or another access option, the right choice should be made based on your health not under pressure.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with advanced kidney disease, speak with your nephrologist and vascular surgeon before dialysis becomes an emergency. Early planning today can make a significant difference tomorrow.

"Every cigarette doesn't just affect your lungs it also damages the blood vessels that keep your legs alive."

Smoking is one of the strongest risk factors for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), a condition where narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs and feet.

Over time, smoking damages the lining of your blood vessels, accelerates plaque buildup, and decreases oxygen delivery to your tissues. This can lead to leg pain while walking, poor wound healing, non-healing foot ulcers, and, in severe cases, increase the risk of limb loss.

The good news? Quitting smoking is one of the most powerful steps you can take to protect your circulation. Combined with early vascular evaluation and appropriate treatment, it can help slow disease progression and improve long-term outcomes.

If you smoke and experience leg pain, numbness, cold feet, or wounds that aren't healing, don't ignore these warning signs. Your blood vessels may be asking for help.

"A mini-stroke may last only a few minutes but its warning should never be ignored."

A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), often called a mini-stroke, is a temporary interruption of blood flow to the brain. While the symptoms may resolve quickly, a TIA can be an important warning sign that a major stroke could occur if the underlying cause is not identified and treated.

Sudden weakness on one side, difficulty speaking, vision changes, dizziness, or loss of balance even if they disappear require immediate medical attention.

As a vascular surgeon, I often evaluate patients with narrowed or blocked carotid arteries, one of the possible causes of a TIA. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can significantly reduce the risk of a future stroke.

Never wait for the symptoms to return. A mini-stroke is your body's warning to act don't ignore it.

Genicular Artery Embolization: A minimally invasive approach to chronic osteoarthritis pain.

When patients experience disabling knee pain from osteoarthritis, the traditional assumption is that the joint is simply wearing out. In reality, the root cause of that severe, daily pain is chronic inflammation. By addressing that hypervascular inflammation directly, we can achieve significant, long-lasting relief.

Genicular Artery Embolization (G*E) is a specialized, minimally invasive procedure designed for patients with moderate-stage osteoarthritis. "Genicular" refers to the arterial network supplying the knee joint. During the procedure, we perform a precise, controlled blockage of the specific micro-vessels feeding the inflamed areas of the joint.

By strategically reducing the blood flow to these hyperactive segments, the local inflammation drops drastically. When you eliminate the inflammation, you eliminate the pain, often providing immediate relief that lasts for months. G*E represents the next frontier in managing arthritic knee pain without major open surgery.

If you or a patient are navigating chronic knee pain and want to understand how targeted embolization works, let’s discuss in the comments below.
