AYURVEDIC CURE FOR MALARIA
Ayurveda Malaria is known as Vishama Jwara. Malaria is the most common infectious disease of the world today. This is also the main variety of intermittent fever which has a tendency to return or recur again. It is transmitted by mosquito bites; it can spread very rapidly and become an epidemic. If treatment is neglected, Malaria can be a fatal disease - all over the world.
A severe malaria attack has three stages:
- It begins with a feeling of intense chill even if the weather is very hot and also the temp keeps rising in spite of the chill.
- It comes on as the temp of the body rises. It begins with hot flushes which increase till the body starts feeling burning hot. Headache, dizziness, delirium and pain throughout the body may also be felt by the patient.
- This stage begins when the fever has reached its highest point. It begins with very high sweating and the body temp gradually reduces. With the temp, the dizziness, headache and pain also reduce.
The following medicines may be taken in meningitis:
Siddha Makaradhwaja; Sauhhagya Vati – 240 mg of Sauhhagya Vati and 120 mg of Siddha Makaradhwaja may be taken two times daily with fresh ginger juice; Krishna Chaturmukha, Kasturi Bhairava and Vata Chintamani – 120 mg each of Vata Chintamani, Kasturi Bhairava and Krishana Chaturmukha should be taken three times in a day; Mahavishagarbha Taila – This should be used for massaging the back; Vishmushtyadi Vati,Talam Bhasma, Karanjadi Vati - 240mg of each of Vishmushtyadi Vati, Talam Bhasma and Karanjadi Vati to be taken with juice of tulsi leaves thrice daily; Sarjika,Sudarshana Churna, Sphatika - 500mg of Sarjika, 2gm of Sudarshana Churna and 240mg of Sphatika to be taken with warm water twice daily; Karanja Churna, Jwarankusha, Tala Bhasma - 500mg of Karanja Churna, 120mg of Jwarankusha and 240mg of Tala Bhasma to be taken with juice of tulsi leaves thrice daily; Shuddha Sphatika(alum), Mahajwaarankusha Rasa - 240mg of Shuddha Sphatika (alum) and 120mg of Mahajwaarankusha Rasa to be taken with juice of tulsi leaves twice daily; Sheetamani Rasa - 240mg to be taken twice daily with honey; Tuvrimallayoga - 60mg to be taken twice daily; Flesh of Karanja,Shuddha Sphatika, Godanti Bhasma - 120mg of each of Flesh of Karanja, Shuddha Sphatika and Godanti Bhasma should be made into six pills and taken at an interval of two hours.
Apart from the above mentioned ayurvedic medicines there are also many potent herbs which are also useful for the treatment of malaria:
- Afsanthin - Wormwood is taken to reduce the symptoms of malarial fevers on a daily basis. It should not be taken during pregnancy.
- Amla or Amlaki - Gooseberry is the richest source of vitamin C and so it helps to replenish the loss of this vitamin through the symptoms of malaria.
- Neem - Margosa Tree contains gedunin, which is very effective for the traditional cure of malaria, ie quinine.
- Shikakai - Acacia an infusion of the leaves of the shikakai tree is useful in reducing the fevers caused due to malaria.
Warning: The local treatment-medicine for malaria is provided as a supplement but not for substitute for professional medical examination (always consult a doctor). Improper treatment of malaria may lead to allied complications like anemia, dysentery, kidney failure and enchaphalitis, coma and other profound alteration of general condition. Malaria is a major cause of death in Africa and third world countries.
Prevention from mosquito bites is very essential as this is the main cause of malaria. There should not be stagnant pools of water in the surroundings or they should be sprayed over with oil.
HOME REMEDIES
The main home remedies for the treatment of meningitis are lemonade, orange juice and other acidic drinks. One cup of soya bean milk mixed with 1table spoon of honey should be taken every night for three or four months.
Diet: The diet of the patient is very important during the treatment of malaria. Initially, the patient should go on fast of orange juice and water for a few days, till the fever is severe. After the fever has subsided, the patient should take only fresh fruits for a few days. Milk can be added to this diet. Then the patient may start a well balance diet with emphasis on fresh fruits, raw vegetables and natural foods. Avoid intake of processed foods, refined and canned foods, as they don't have the necessary nutrients to keep the body healthy.
Cold pack - apply cold pack to keep the temperatures down. Take a long sheet of cloth and dip in water and wrap it around the whole body. Let it stay for at least ten minutes and this can be done three times a day to get rid of high temperatures.
Clean surrounding - should be kept clean. Water should not be allowed to stagnate as it provides an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Make sure there is a mosquito net to prevent mosquito bites.
Warm water - frequently during the day to cleanse the bowels system and to keep the body hydrated, which helps in proper functioning of the body.
Basil leaves - juice of holy basil leaves bring down fever. Basil leaves contain two vital flavonoids named vicenin and orientin which protect damages to blood cells. In addition, holy basil leaves contains oils like cineol, estragole and linalool, which have vital anti bacterial properties. All these properties make it an effective home cure to alleviate symptoms of malaria. A decoction prepared by boiling leaves of holy basil and black pepper powder or powdered cardamom in half a liter of water is effective in bringing down body temperature. The decoction can be mixed with sugar to make it more palatable.
Cinnamon - contains cinnamaldehyde which has mild anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties which help alleviate allied symptoms of malaria like loss of appetite, nausea, indigestion, cramps and spasms. Cinnamon provides relief from many allied symptoms of malaria. Coarsely powder one teaspoon of cinnamon , boil in water , add a pinch of black pepper powder and honey.
Grapefruit - extract contains natural quinine substance beneficial for curing malaria. Boil a quarter of grapefruit and strain its pulp. This can be taken up to twice a day in addition to the normal course of treatment.
Alum - should be roasted over hot plate and powdered, half a teaspoon of the powder taken about four hours before the expected attack and half a teaspoon every two hours after it, for relief.
Fever nut - seeds are very effective home cure for malaria. About six grams of the seeds can be taken with a glass of water two hours before the onset of fever, and another after one hour of attack.
Chirayata - is a natural analgesic and helps in reducing fever. An infusion made by steeping 15gms of chirayata in 250 ml of hot water and add cloves, cinnamon to the water, can be given in doses of 15 to 30 ml.
Datura - leaves are very useful in the tertian malarial fever. About two and half new leaves of datura ,should be mixed with jaggery and taken as a pill two hours before the onset of fever.
Lime and lemon - they are very useful home cure for quartan malarial fever. Three grams of lime must be dissolved in 60ml of water and juice of one lemon should be added to it. This mix should be taken before the onset of fever.
Fenugreek seeds - have antibiotic properties helpful in treating malaria. The seeds help in building immunity and fighting malaria, this can be included in the diet to treat malaria. Dry and powder the seeds and mix in water to drink. Drink this mix for a week to get rid of malaria.
Ginger - add ginger and raisins to one glass of water and boil this into a decoction and can be consumed ,after it cools down . Ginger root can be cut , a piece can be used with every 3 tablespoon of raisins.
Solid foods should be replaced by a liquid diet. Green vegetables and fruits should be a major part of the diet and must be included in the post recovery stage. Spicy and fatty foods should be avoided. Cod foods in the diet such as cucumber, orange, watermelons, banana, papaya etc. should also be avoided.
