🔸Optic disc: Exit of optic nerve; physiological blind spot.

🔹Aqueous humor: Maintains IOP & nourishes cornea/lens.

🩺 Why Phototherapy Used for Neonates? GUMAN SINGH

👶 Phototherapy is a standard treatment used in newborns to reduce neonatal jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia) by lowering the bilirubin level in the blood.

📌 Key Points

💛 Indication: Neonatal jaundice caused by elevated unconjugated bilirubin.

💡 Mechanism: Blue light (≈460–490 nm) converts unconjugated bilirubin into water-soluble isomers (lumirubin) that can be excreted through urine and stool without liver conjugation.

🎯 Purpose: Prevent bilirubin-induced neurological damage (Kernicterus).

👶 During Therapy:
🔹Baby's eyes are covered with protective eye pads.
🔹Maximum skin exposure is maintained.
🔹Adequate feeding and hydration are ensured.
🔹 Temperature and bilirubin levels are monitored regularly.

⚠️ Possible Side Effects:
- Dehydration
- Loose stools
- Skin rash
- Hyperthermia/Hypothermia
- Bronze Baby Syndrome (rare)

📍⚕️Caption - Vigorous Chest Physiotherapy with Nebulization in Neonates

👉Reason:
Neonates, especially those with respiratory distress syndrome, pneumonia, or bronchopulmonary dysplasia, often struggle with airway clearance. Chest physiotherapy combined with nebulization helps improve lung function by loosening and clearing secretions.

👉Benefits:

Enhances mucus clearance

Improves oxygenation

Reduces respiratory effort

Promotes better lung expansion

Decreases the need for invasive ventilation

👉Techniques:

Positioning: Proper head-down or lateral positions to promote drainage from specific lung segments.

Percussion: Gentle rhythmic tapping using cupped hands or soft percussors.

Vibration: Gentle oscillatory movements during exhalation.

Suctioning (if needed): Following physiotherapy to remove loosened secretions.

👉Nebulization: Administered before or during therapy to hydrate secretions and deliver bronchodilators or saline.
