Raw Carrot vs Boiled Carrot: Which One Raises Blood Sugar More?

Did you know?

πŸ₯• Raw Carrot
βœ” Glycemic Index (GI): 16

πŸ₯• Boiled Carrot
βœ” Glycemic Index (GI): 39

Why does the Glycemic Index increase after boiling?

πŸ”₯ Cooking softens the carrot's cell walls, making its carbohydrates easier for your digestive enzymes to break down. As a result, glucose becomes available more quickly, which can increase the glycemic index compared with raw carrots.

But here's the important part πŸ‘‡

βœ… A GI of 39 is still considered a low glycemic index food (low GI = 55 or less). That means boiled carrots can still be part of a healthy meal for most people, especially when eaten in appropriate portions and paired with protein, healthy fats, or fiber.

πŸ‘‰ The takeaway: Don't fear carrots. Focus on how you prepare them, what you eat them with, and your overall meal pattern rather than a single GI number.

πŸ’¬ Comment "CARROT" if you'd like a list of vegetables and how cooking changes their glycemic index!

Same Food. Same Plate. Different Blood Sugar Spike. Why?

Sometimes, it's not just WHAT you eat…
The ORDER in which you eat your food may also influence your post-meal glucose response.

πŸ₯¦ Try this simple sequence:

1️⃣ Vegetables & fiber first
2️⃣ Protein & healthy fats next
3️⃣ Rice, roti or other carbohydrates last

Eating fiber-rich vegetables and protein before carbohydrates may help slow digestion and glucose absorption, leading to a more gradual rise in blood sugar for some people.

So, instead of completely removing rice from your plate, focus on the quality, quantity, and order of your meal.

Small changes. Better habits. Better metabolic health. πŸ’š

πŸ’Ύ Save this for your next meal and share it with someone managing diabetes or prediabetes.

Same Banana. Different Blood Sugar Response. Why?

The banana didn't change.

The way you ate it did.

When you eat a banana by itself, your blood sugar may rise more quickly because the carbohydrates are absorbed faster.

But when you pair it with a source of healthy fat and protein, like peanut butter, digestion slows down. This can lead to a smaller and more gradual blood sugar rise for many people.

βœ… The lesson isn't to fear fruit.

It's to eat it smarter.

Simple food combinations can make a meaningful difference in your glucose response.

⚠️ Remember: Everyone responds differently to foods. The best approach is to monitor your own blood sugar, especially if you have diabetes or prediabetes.

Same Mango. Two Different Blood Sugar Responses. Why? 🀯

Ever wondered why one person can enjoy a ripe mango without much change in blood sugar, while another sees a huge spike?

The answer isn't just the mango. It's your metabolic health.

πŸ’‘ One of the biggest factors is insulin resistanceβ€”a condition where your body's cells don't respond well to insulin. When that happens, even healthy carbohydrate-rich foods like fruits can cause larger blood sugar rises.

The good news? 🌿
Insulin resistance can often be improved through consistent lifestyle changes, including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and maintaining a healthy weight. As insulin sensitivity improves, many people find their bodies handle carbohydrates more effectively.

🚫 Don't fear fruit.
βœ… Focus on improving your body's ability to process it.

Your goal isn't to eliminate every carbβ€”it's to build a healthier metabolism.

We didn't follow a strict diet. We simply changed a few everyday habits in our kitchen.

Here are the 3 changes we made:

πŸ₯— 1. We stopped making rice the main part of the meal.
Now, every meal starts with protein and vegetables, and carbohydrates come last. It keeps us fuller for longer.

⏰ 2. We stopped eating whenever we felt like it.
Instead, we eat meals at regular times and avoid unnecessary snacking. Our energy stays much more stable throughout the day.

πŸ₯œ 3. We changed what we keep in the kitchen.
Instead of biscuits, chips, and sugary snacks, we keep eggs, curd, paneer, sprouts, nuts, fruits, and vegetables within easy reach.

We believe healthy eating doesn't start on your plate.

It starts with what's available in your kitchen.

πŸ’¬ Comment "KITCHEN" and we'll share our Doctor's Healthy Kitchen Checklist to help you make simple changes at home.

One of my patients with PCOS had been struggling to lose weight for years... until we addressed this root cause.

Over the next 3 months, she lost 8 kgβ€”without starving herself or spending hours in the gym.

Here's what many women with PCOS are never told:

PCOS is not just a hormone problem.

For many women, insulin resistance is one of the key drivers behind:
βœ”οΈ Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
βœ”οΈ Increased belly fat
βœ”οΈ Sugar cravings
βœ”οΈ Irregular periods
βœ”οΈ Fatigue after meals
βœ”οΈ Higher future risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes

If insulin resistance isn't identified and managed, simply eating less or exercising more may not give the results you're expecting.

The goal isn't to starve yourself or spend hours in the gym.

The goal is to improve your metabolic health with the right nutrition, adequate protein and fiber, strength training, quality sleep, stress management, and a personalized medical approach when needed.

Every woman with PCOS is different, so treatment should always be individualized.

🍚 I Switched From Rice To Millet... But My Sugar Didn't Improve.

As a doctor, I hear this surprisingly often.
Many people replace rice with millet expecting their diabetes to improve automatically.
But here's what most people don't know...

3 Reasons You Must Know πŸ‘‡

1️⃣ Millet Is Still A Carbohydrate
Many people think millet is a "free food."
It's not.
For a similar cooked serving:
🍚 Rice β†’ ~28g carbohydrates
🌾 Millet β†’ ~23–25g carbohydrates
Yes, millet has slightly less carbohydrate, but it can still raise blood sugar if eaten in large amounts.

2️⃣ Millet Has More Fiber & Proteinβ€”But Not Magic
Compared to white rice, millet generally contains:
βœ… More fiber
βœ… More protein
βœ… More minerals
This may help slow digestion and improve fullness.
But the difference is often not large enough to overcome poor eating habits.
If your plate lacks protein and vegetables, millet alone won't solve the problem.

3️⃣ Your Plate Matters More Than Your Grain

This is the biggest reason.
A large bowl of millet with:
❌ No protein
❌ No vegetables
❌ Frequent snacking
❌ Poor sleep
❌ High stress
..can still lead to high blood sugar.

Instead focus on:
πŸ₯— Half plate vegetables
🍳 Protein at every meal
🍚 Controlled grain portion
🚢 Walking after meals

Because the goal isn't to replace rice.
The goal is to improve insulin sensitivity.
πŸ’‘ Better Plate > Better Grain

If I Have Diabetes, What Should I Eat During Travel?

One of the biggest mistakes I see people with diabetes make during travel is relying on airport snacks, biscuits, chips, sugary drinks, and frequent tea or coffee breaks.

The result?

πŸ“ˆ Blood sugar spikes
😴 Low energy
πŸ” Increased cravings
🎯 Difficulty getting back on track after the trip

As a doctor, here are my travel-friendly diabetes food recommendations:

βœ… Boiled eggs
βœ… Roasted chana or peanuts
βœ… Unsweetened Greek yogurt/curd
βœ… Paneer cubes or grilled paneer
βœ… Nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios)
βœ… Cheese cubes
βœ… Sprouts salad
βœ… Coconut pieces
βœ… Grilled chicken or fish (if non-vegetarian)
βœ… Plenty of water

When eating at restaurants, remember this simple rule:

πŸ₯— Fill half your plate with vegetables
πŸ— Add a good source of protein
🍚 Keep rice, bread, or desserts as the smallest portion

Travel doesn't have to derail your diabetes control.

With a little planning, you can enjoy your trip while keeping your blood sugar stable.

7 Hidden Mistakes Keeping Your Belly Fat Stubbornly High

You’re eating "healthy."

You’re trying to exercise.

Yet the belly fat refuses to go away.

As a doctor, I see this all the time.

The problem is often not a lack of willpowerβ€”it’s a few hidden mistakes that keep insulin levels elevated and make fat loss much harder.

❌ Skipping protein at breakfast
❌ Drinking your calories
❌ Sitting for long hours
❌ Poor sleep quality
❌ Chronic stress & high cortisol
❌ Weekend cheat meals becoming cheat weekends
❌ Focusing only on calories instead of hormones

⚠️ Belly fat is more than a cosmetic issue.

It is strongly associated with insulin resistance, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

The good news?

Once you identify the root cause, your body can start responding differently.

πŸ‘‡ Comment "BELLY" and check your DM for a simple guide to reduce stubborn belly fat naturally.

πŸ’Š 1 Tablet Today.
πŸ’ŠπŸ’ŠπŸ’ŠπŸ’ŠπŸ’Š 5 Tablets Later.
πŸ’‰ Insulin Next?

πŸ‘‡ Why does this happen to millions of diabetics despite all the advances in modern medicine?

3 reasons

1️⃣ Insulin Resistance Keeps Increasing
Type 2 Diabetes is not just a "high sugar" problem. It is primarily a problem of insulin resistance. Over time, if excess body fat, poor sleep, stress, inactivity, and unhealthy eating patterns continue, the body's cells become less responsive to insulin. As a result, more medication is often needed to achieve the same blood sugar control.

2️⃣ The Pancreas Gradually Gets Tired
The landmark UKPDS study showed that beta-cell function (the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas) declines progressively over time in people with Type 2 Diabetes. Even when medications are taken correctly, the pancreas may produce less insulin as the years pass, leading to the need for additional medicines or insulin therapy.

3️⃣ We Often Manage Sugar, But Ignore the Root Cause
Many people focus only on bringing down their blood sugar numbers while overlooking the factors driving insulin resistance. Poor sleep, low protein intake, lack of physical activity, chronic stress, loss of muscle mass, and excess abdominal fat continue to worsen metabolic health silently. If these are not addressed, diabetes often progresses despite medication.

🚨 Medicines are important and often life-saving. But long-term success comes from combining medical treatment with lifestyle changes that improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.

As a doctor, I've seen patients transform their HbA1c, energy levels, weight, and medication requirements when they focus on the root causeβ€”not just the sugar reading.

Have your diabetes medicines increased over the years?

Comment "REVERSE" and I'll share my Root Cause Checklist to help you identify what may be driving your insulin resistance.
