HEADSTAND WITH TWO CHAIRS | SIRSASANA
Sirsasana with two-chair support is not simply about getting upside down. In the Iyengar approach, props are used to create support, precision and awareness—allowing the practitioner to work intelligently rather than force the posture.
🌀 Sinus & respiratory space
The inversion can encourage drainage and a sense of openness around the nasal and sinus passages, while the supported setup allows you to stay longer with less unnecessary muscular effort.
🧠 Neck & upper-back awareness
The chairs provide stability so the practitioner can work on axial extension, scapular organisation and controlled cervical alignment, rather than collapsing into the neck.
🦵 Legs stay active
Strong, extended legs and an active pelvic lift create the upward extension characteristic of Sirsasana, while the chairs help distribute the work through the whole body.
This is the essence of Iyengar Yoga—using props to understand the body, modify the pose and develop precision.
⚠️ Headstand should be learned under appropriate guidance, particularly if you have neck issues, hypertension, eye conditions or other medical concerns.
