“Hypothyroidism a threat to Women".
Being a women!! it is difficult to keep yourself healthy and fit, as at every age of adulthood hormonal changes takes place in our body.
To maintain your health at every decade of age is very important ,so knowledge and awareness of present situation regarding health in society and observing innerself every now and then is mandatory.
So to bring that awareness I chose topic "Hypothyroidism a threat to Women".
Hypothyroidism is more common in women.
It is about eight to ten times less common in men.
Also known as an underactive thyroid and a metabolic disorder.
When thyroid hormones like T3 and T4 their levels are irregular—a deficiency leading to hypothyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism is the result of excess hormone levels, but in many cases this ultimately leads to hypothyroidism as well.
Hypothyroidism mainly affects the reproductive system of women.
Mostly women of childbearing age are prone to hypothyroidism so to avoid pregnancy with complications need to be cautiously monitor thyroid function.
The only way to overcome Hypothyroidism is lifestyle modification.
In Hypothyroidism Four F's of women are affected
F- Face
F- Figure
F- Fertility
F- Forgetfulness
Face -Puffiness of face , drooping of eyelids and dull facial expressions.
Figure- Weight gain is common symptom.
Fertility - Hormonal imbalance leading to menorrhagia and secondary amenorrhea.
Forgetfulness - Forgetfulness is common which is easily mistaken for other diseases such as dementia .
So these symptoms are as alarm clock their is a need for the blood investigation i.e Thyroid routine .
Hypothyroidism needs to be treated as soon as it is diagnosed . If left untreated will give rise to life threatening condition called Myxoedema coma can occur.
Let us look causes of Hypothyroidism in detail
Hypothyroidism is far more ubiquitous than hyperthyroidism. It is often the result
of low intake of iodide or a lack of response to that nutrient by the body. Some foods actually block the body’s ability to uptake iodine .This includes a number of vegetables from the brassica family, including broccoli, cabbage, and sprouts, as well as soy, peanuts, and canola oil.
Stress
Mobile lifestyle where person travels a lot
Excess intake of diet having qualities of hot,light and dry .
Imabalnce in vata and pitta doshas depletes ojas (which is innate vitality and immunity I.e energy reserves) causing kapha to push out of balance.
So kapha is responsible for many symptoms.
Treatment:
Diet
Should include spices like cinnamon,fennel,ginger,turmeric and cardamom.
Khichadi ( moong dal and rice porridge) with pachanas herbs which does not allow to build up toxins in the body and lekhanas ginger and black pepper which helps in reducing weight.
Avoid raw cruciferous vegetables like raddishes and cabbage.
Herbs: Digestive herbs which regulates digestive power to increase metabolism is essential .
