Grateful to .university.official for inviting me to speak at the seminar, “Healthy Women: Screen, Detect and Protect”

The discussion focused on one of the most important areas of women’s health, cervical cancer awareness, screening, and HPV vaccination.

Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers where prevention is possible through the right awareness, timely screening, and vaccination. But for that, conversations need to start early especially with young women.

It was encouraging to see students engaging with questions, curiosity, and openness.

Thank you once again to Centurion University for creating space for such an important conversation.

Many mothers hear “anomaly scan” and immediately think something is wrong. But no, this scan is a routine and important part of pregnancy care.

It is usually advised in the middle of pregnancy because by then, many baby structures can be seen more clearly.

Sometimes the scan is completely reassuring.
Sometimes it tells us that something needs follow-up.
Sometimes it helps us plan extra monitoring for the mother or baby.

Either way, knowing early is always better than guessing late.

Now let’s talk treatment 👇

If a tube is found to be blocked, the next step depends on where and how much damage is present.

🔹 Laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive keyhole surgery) helps us directly visualise the tubes.
Through 2–3 small incisions, we assess the damaged portion and decide whether repair is possible.

If the damage is mild to moderate and the tube structure can be restored, surgical correction may allow natural conception.

However, if:
• The tube is severely damaged
• The inner lining is destroyed
• Or the tube cannot be reconstructed

Then repair may not be beneficial.

In such cases, IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) becomes the most effective option.

In IVF:
• Eggs are retrieved directly from the o***y
• Fertilisation happens in the lab
• The embryo is transferred directly into the uterus

Here, the tubes are not required at all.

For women whose only issue is tubal blockage — with otherwise normal cycles, hormones, and ovarian reserve — IVF offers a 70–80% success potential across cycles, depending on age and clinical factors.

The key message?
Blocked tubes are treatable. The approach just needs to be personalised.

Early evaluation saves time. And time matters in fertility.

Fertility timelines are not the same for everyone, especially when age and health factors come into play.

In reproductive medicine, we look at time + biology together. Egg quality and ovarian reserve gradually change with age. That is why medical guidelines suggest slightly different timelines for evaluation depending on age.

Seeking an early fertility consultation does not mean something is wrong. It simply means understanding your cycle, checking basic hormones, and planning pregnancy in a more informed way.

Sometimes small factors like irregular ovulation, thyroid imbalance, PCOS, past pelvic infections, or endometriosis can delay conception and many of these are treatable once identified.

A simple check-up can give clarity and peace of mind for couples trying to conceive.

If pregnancy has been on your mind and timelines feel confusing, have a conversation with a specialist and understand your options early.

Save this for future reference or share it with someone who may need this information.

As a gynaecologist, I meet many pregnant women who ask questions about nutrition, scans, medicines, baby movements and delivery.

But behind many of those questions is something much simpler:

“”Will everything be okay?””

That reassurance doesn’t always have to come from a doctor.

It can come from a husband who listens patiently.
Who attends appointments when possible.
Who notices when she is tired.
Who understands that pregnancy changes more than just the body.

Medical care matters.

But emotional safety matters too.

The strongest support system a pregnant woman can have is a partner who makes her feel seen, heard and cared for.

Fruit is good. But how you eat it matters. Whole fruit gives fibre and keeps you fuller. Juice can push sugar faster, especially if you’re already at risk of gestational diabetes.

A lot of stress during pregnancy, infertility treatment, PCOS, or even routine checkups comes from not understanding what is happening inside the body. The right explanation can change fear into confidence and good healthcare should never feel confusing.

As a doctor, one of the most reassuring things to hear is “Now I finally understand what’s happening.”

The purpose of sharing such cases is not to scare women. It is to help them understand one thing clearly that a positive pregnancy test is only the first step. Confirming the location of pregnancy is equally important.

If you are newly pregnant and have pain, spotting, dizziness, or unusual discomfort, don’t wait it out at home. Speak to your doctor early.

A lot of people don’t realise how emotionally difficult this day can feel for women who are:
trying to conceive,
healing after miscarriage,
going through IVF,
or grieving a loss nobody talks about openly.

Not every woman wants advice.
Not every woman wants the “relax karo” lecture.
Sometimes, people just need empathy and understanding.

So maybe this year, instead of asking “Good news kab?”
ask “How are you doing?”

That one change matters more than people think. ❤️

This mother came in repeatedly worried about reduced baby movements. Every visit carried fear, anxiety, and the question every parent silently asks:

“Is my baby okay?”

With regular monitoring, scans, and fetal heartbeat assessments, we kept a close watch throughout the pregnancy and reassured the family step by step whenever things appeared normal and stable.

Pregnancy care is about helping parents feel informed, supported and less afraid during uncertain moments.

Happy to share that she delivered a healthy full-term baby safely. ❤️

Messages like these remind me that patients remember not only the treatment, but also how safe and heard they felt during the journey.
