World Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) Day is observed on the first Saturday of May (May 3, 2026). This year’s theme, “Not Only Back Pain,” highlights that AS is more than just back pain it can affect the peripheral joints, eyes , skin, food pipe (Gut) and overall quality of life (fatigue and depression). It can affect children where it is known as Juvenile Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Early symptoms like early morning stiffness, persistent pain, reduced flexibility, and fatigue are often ignored, leading to delayed diagnosis. Early detection and timely treatment can help prevent long-term complications and improve mobility.
