"Senior Yoga" sessions - something which all our parents need is to move better, breathe deeper and age healthier.

Which is close to my heart over 5+ years, helping parents in India and USA through one:one, group sessions has been a delightful and great learning experience for me!

And the greatest issues for them as they age, joints are aching, health issues, over thinking - unable to sleep as all the old memories especially the bad experiences of their life come up and so many other associated issues.

Yoga comes as a rescue to them in terms of mild movements integrated with pranayama, meditation, ayurveda wisdom to help them have a healthy gut without constipation and most importantly the deep philosophy of yoga sutras which helps them to think lesser and focus on their current state of protecting their own energy!

Probably, the best gift we can give our parents is to have a calmer and healthier holistic approach for their age.

Our laziness, lack of time, being in trend, trying new food, boredom for home made food, whatever be the reason it is all due to lack of planning our healthy meal.

And when we can wait for 30 minutes minimum, can't we make something healthy in that time?!

Not always this is possible practically, but most times it can, when it becomes a habit, it saves a lot of time, energy and money beyond healing and helping your gut to stay healthy as you age!

What you ate in 20's does not suit you when you are in your 30's and even as we go into our 40's and more!

The more simple the food is the healthier it is.

Yoga is an integrated approach and it works magic when combined with the ayurvedic diet recommendations where you get to understand what you should NOT eat or avoid based on your doshas/ body type!

A happy gut makes a calm mind.

An old client and a good friend talked to me today. After a mild practice which she needed for today, she asked me this.

"May be our upbringing, maybe our niceness, maybe our maturity sometimes brings more stress to us whereas people who cause us stress keep saying they are stressed! after all that they have done to us"!

It went deep into me and kept me thinking as I listened.

I listened to her patiently and we had a deep conversation also touching upon concepts of detachment and she just wanted to talk!

What thoughts come to you and what can help her, beyond yoga therapy, meditation, breathwork?

Y.O.G.A - The moment we hear this or I say I am a yoga coach, people ask me if I can stand upside down?! And I think within myself - Am I a circus monkey!? Or only if I stand do I prove myself to be a yoga coach or yoga instructor?

Yoga indeed comes from the root word "yuj" which means union. Union of the triangle - Body, mind and breath. (Not soul 😁). Union of the self with the Universe/higher self/Divine.

The real magic of yoga is not in the mat, but often outside the mat, when we go beyond the body! and when the yoga practice starts reflecting in our daily life, we become more aware, we understand the people around us, we "observe" and don't "absorb", and in a way we go "inside" with no need to show off or prove ourselves to others around us.

As I speak and write my thoughts, I learn every day when I go off the mat and keep evolving too!

Yajna or Yagna (Sanskrit) is an offering. An offering of thankfulness or gratitude for different things around us.

There are different kinds of offering / Yajna, namely

Deva Yajna (Offering through fire sacrifice/homa) to the Divine Gods/Goddesses.
Pitru Yajna - Offering our ancestors
Bhuta Yajna - Offering to the creatures around us
Japa Yajna - Offering through chanting/ mantras and ...

One more yagna/yajna which is said in Bhagavad Gita (Chap.4.Verse 29) which is the same concept as said in Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Guess what? Post your comments.

And make your own offering to people around us this summer, by providing water/buttermilk/juices etc. and to creatures around us.

Good Karma always pays back - as "unknown" blessings!
