She wasn’t waiting for them to return—or so she told herself.
But somewhere inside, she was still waiting for one message:
“I’m sorry.”
“I finally understand your pain.”
“You mattered to me.”
She believed that hearing those words would finally give her closure.
Days became months. Life offered new people, new experiences, and new beginnings—but part of her remained standing at the same closed door.
She compared everyone to the past. She replayed what she should have said. She imagined the conversation that might never happen.
Then one day, she asked herself:
“Do I really need their apology to begin healing?”
“Am I giving someone else the power to decide when I can be free?”
Letting go does not mean the relationship was meaningless. It does not mean what happened was acceptable. And it does not mean you must forget.
It means choosing not to remain emotionally imprisoned by what someone did, failed to do, or never understood.
Sometimes, closure is not something another person gives us. It is something we slowly create within ourselves—by accepting what was, grieving what could not be, and choosing our peace.
You may never receive the explanation you deserved.
But you can still give yourself permission to heal.
The relationship ended. Your life did not.
