Is your baby ready to move beyond purรฉes? ๐Ÿฅฃโžก๏ธ๐Ÿฅ•

Around 7โ€“8 months, babies can gradually explore thicker textures, mashed foods and appropriately prepared finger foods. This is an important stage for learning how to chew, pick up food, explore textures and become more independent with eating. ๐Ÿฅ‘โœจ

Remember: textures matter as much as nutrition. โค๏ธ

Try offering:
๐Ÿฅ• Soft-cooked vegetable sticks
๐ŸŒ Soft banana pieces
๐Ÿฅ‘ Ripe avocado slices
๐Ÿฅ” Soft potato wedges
๐Ÿ  Steamed sweet potato
๐Ÿฅž Soft homemade mini pancakes/cutlets
๐ŸŒพ Soft, well-cooked grains and cereals

What parents should remember:

โœ”๏ธ Food should be soft enough to squish between your fingers
โœ”๏ธ Progress gradually from smooth purรฉes โ†’ mashed/lumpy โ†’ soft finger foods
โœ”๏ธ Let your baby explore and self-feed when developmentally ready
โœ”๏ธ Always supervise your baby while eating
โœ”๏ธ Avoid hard, round, sticky or choking-risk foods and prepare foods appropriately
โœ”๏ธ Follow your babyโ€™s hunger and fullness cues โ€” messy eating is learning! ๐Ÿฅฐ

The goal isnโ€™t a perfect eater. Itโ€™s a confident little eater. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿฅœ Introducing allergens to your baby can feel scary โ€” but it doesnโ€™t have to be.

Once your baby is developmentally ready for solids, common allergens can be introduced in safe, age-appropriate forms rather than being unnecessarily delayed.

Think: small amount โ†’ one allergen at a time โ†’ observe โ†’ keep offering regularly if tolerated. โค๏ธ

Common allergens include peanut, tree nuts, dairy, egg, wheat, soy, fish and sesame.

โœจ A few important reminders:
โ€ข Never give whole nuts to babies โ€” use smooth nut butter thinned appropriately.
โ€ข Introduce new allergens when you can observe your baby.
โ€ข Avoid introducing multiple new allergens together.
โ€ข Continue offering tolerated allergens regularly in safe forms.
โ€ข Watch for symptoms such as hives, swelling, vomiting, coughing or breathing difficulty.
โ€ข If your baby has severe eczema, an existing food allergy, or a previous reaction, speak with your paediatrician before introducing allergens.

Early exposure is not about rushing your baby. Itโ€™s about introducing foods safely, confidently and appropriately. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿ“Œ SAVE this post before starting allergen introduction.
๐Ÿค SHARE it with a parent who is about to start solids.

Most parents introduce water at the wrong time. ๐Ÿ’ง
๐Ÿ’ง When should babies start drinking water?

Many parents start water too earlyโ€”but before 6 months, babies donโ€™t need water unless specifically advised by a pediatrician.

Once your baby starts solids (around 6 months), you can begin offering small sips of clean, boiled and cooled water in an open cup or sipper while continuing breast milk or formula as the main source of nutrition.

โœ”๏ธ Helps babies learn cup-drinking
โœ”๏ธ Supports hydration as solids increase
โœ”๏ธ Encourages healthy drinking habits

Remember: Water complements milkโ€”it never replaces it during the first year.

โค๏ธ Save this post for later and share it with a parent starting their weaning journey.
