Dengue fever is a mosquito born illness.
Mild dengue causes high fever and flu-like symptoms.The severe form of dengue can be life threatening .Within a few hours
it causes serious bleeding,a sudden drop in blood pressure (Shock) and death.

Symptoms :
Mild Dengue

* Fever-104F
* Nausea and vomiting
*General bodyache
* Pain in muscles and joints
* Rash
These symptoms last for 2-5 days.
Most people recover within a week.

Severe Dengue

*Belly pain and tenderness
*Persistent vomiting
*Bleeding from nose or gums.
*Vomiting of blood or blood in stool.

Treatment of
In my last post I discussed about causes,symptoms and complications of
Hypothyroidism.Today I am going to tell you about the treatment of Hypo-
thyroidism.

As you know that Hypothyroidism is caused when thyroid gland doesn’t
produce enough of thyroid hormones in the body,it’s treatment focuses
on supplementing the thyroid hormone externally through medication
to replenish the levels.

In Homeopathy, we recommend a group of medicines for thyroid gland
dysfunction ,some of these are Bromium,Iodum,Kali iod,Spongia,Natrum
Mur and Thyroidinum.

DIET
People have asked me about the diet one should follow in this disease.
As such no specific diet is recommended, but individuals should take a
well balanced diet rich in Antioxidants and Nutrition.One should take
fruits and vegetables like blueberries,tomatoes,bell peppers etc.

Some foods and nutrients may be harmful if taken in large quantities.

GLAND DYSFUNCTION

Thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine gland situated in anterior part of neck .It weighs about 2-3 gm in newborns and 18-60 gm in adults.It secrets hormones that govern many important functions in our body.

Thyroid disorders occur typically when the gland releases too many or too few hormones.Common problems associated with the thyroid gland dysfunction are:

*Hypothyroidism
*Hyperthyroidism
*Thyroiditis
*Thyroid Nodules
*Thyroid cancer

In this post I will list some important aspects of Hypothyroidism.

HYPOTHYROIDISM
Hypothyroidism is caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland.In 95% of cases problem lies within the thyroid gland but in 5% of cases problem is due to malfunctioning of Pituitary gland.

Causes Of Hypothyroidism
*Iodine deficiency
*Primary Hypothyroidism is due to
-Hashimoto’s thyroiditis an autoimmune disorder that produces
antibodies that affect the thyroid gland’s ability to produce hormone.
-Treatment of thyroid tumours.
-Radiation
-Interference from drugs used in the treatment of Psychiatric disorders
and Hyperthyroidism.
*Secondary Hypothyroidism:Pituitary gland does not produce enough
thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
*Tertiary Hypothyroidism:Hypothalamus fails to produce sufficient thyro-
tropic releasing hormone (TRH) which in turn stimulates the Pituitary
gland to produce TSH.

SYMPTOMS OF HYPOTHYROIDISM
Signs and symptoms may vary depending on the severity of hormone
deficiency.Most commonly it affects the middle aged and older women
but infants and children can also suffer.
INFANTILE HYPOTHYROIDISM
It occurs due to in-utero deficiency of thyroid hormone.It’s signs are:
*Yellow dry thick skin.
*Dwarfism,failure to grow normally.
*Thick lips and tongue.
*Delayed dentition
*Mental retardation.

CHILDHOOD HYPOTHYROIDISM
*Delayed milestones.
*Frequent ear and respiratory infections.
*Difficulty in concentrating .
*Abnormal fatigue ,poor athletic ability.
*Delayed puberty.
* Poor mental development.

HYPOTHYROIDISM in ADULTS
*Fatigue;Poor muscle tone.
*Weight gain and water retention.
*Cold intolerance.
*Depression,Apathy and Mood instability .
*Dry puffy skin specially on face.
* Abnormal menstrual cycles.
*Impaired memory;Psychomotor slowing.
*Elevated blood cholesterol levels can be found in few cases.

COMPLICATIONS associated with untreated Hypothyroidism

*Children born with congenital hypothyroidism can have severe cogni-

*Elderly suffer from peripheral neuropathy
*Sever cognitive function impairment and dementia.
*Incresed risk of heart disease and heart failure due to high levels of
LDL cholesterol.
*Myxoedema.
*Infertility.

Vaccination Drive In India

Today 16 January,2021 is a great day in Indian medical history.The Largest Global Vaccination Drive has been started in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched the CO- WIN App-a digital platform for monitoring of the COVID -19 vaccine roll out and delivery in the country.Through this app citizens will be able to log in and register themselves.After registration the person will receive SMS on their registered mobile number about the due date ,place and time of vaccination.

Two COVID-19 vaccines have been approved by Drug Controller General of India(DGCI):Pune based Serum Institute of India’s COVISHIELD and the Hyderabad- based Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN . Serum Institutute of India has released 1.1 crore doses and Bharat Biotech has released 55 lakh doses of vaccine.

In the first phase of vaccination drive ,frontline health workers :Doctors ,nurses and other hospital staff will be included followed by persons above 50 yrs .No choice of vaccine selection can b done.
