Low re**al cancer poses a critical balance—achieving oncologic clearance while preserving sphincter function.
🔬 Our review explores the complexities of managing positive doughnut margins following neoadjuvant chemoradiation (NACRT). Treatment-induced histological changes can make intraoperative margin assessment challenging and sometimes ambiguous.
📊 Key insight: A positive doughnut margin should not be interpreted in isolation. Surgical decisions must consider tumor regression, main specimen margins, and overall patient factors.
✨ With advances in imaging and molecular profiling, and a strong multidisciplinary approach, more precise and personalised decision-making is becoming possible—guiding better outcomes in these complex cases.

Disorders of consciousness (DoC) remain one of the most complex challenges in modern medicine—impacting diagnosis, prognosis, and long-term care.
🔬 Our latest review highlights how innovation is reshaping this field:
• Emerging pharmacological therapies
• Neuroplasticity-driven rehabilitation
• Brain–computer interfaces (BCIs)
• Advanced neuroimaging techniques
✨ Key insight: Integrating these advances within a multidisciplinary framework is crucial for improving diagnostic precision, personalising treatment, and enhancing recovery outcomes.
As research continues to evolve, the future of DoC care lies in more accurate prognostic models and patient-centred strategies—offering renewed hope for patients and their families.

RCC accounts for nearly 2% of global cancers, with rising incidence and mortality. However, detailed clinicopathological data from India remains limited.
🔬 Our Study
A retrospective analysis at Apollo Hospital, Chennai (2022) evaluated RCC cases to better understand their clinical and morphological profile.
💡 Why It Matters
This study provides valuable baseline data on RCC patterns, staging, and histopathology in the Indian setting—helping guide early diagnosis, management strategies, and future research.
🤝 Takeaway
Strengthening regional data is key to improving outcomes in RCC through better understanding of disease presentation and progression.

Alopecia areata is more than a cosmetic concern—it’s an autoimmune condition that leads to nonscarring hair loss and can significantly impact a patient’s psychological well-being.
🔬 Our Study Insight
Conducted at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital & Kakatiya Medical College (2019–2021), this observational study analysed 102 patients to explore demographic patterns, disease severity, and associations with other autoimmune conditions.
💡 Why It Matters
Alopecia areata should be approached holistically—not just as a dermatological condition but as a systemic and psychological one. Early screening for comorbidities like thyroid dysfunction and diabetes, along with timely psychological support, can significantly improve patient outcomes.
🤝 Takeaway
Integrated care is key—addressing both the clinical and emotional aspects ensures better management and quality of life for patients.

Tidal volume (TV) challenge improves the reliability of pulse pressure variation (PPV) in predicting fluid responsiveness. Our study evaluated whether carotid peak velocity (CPV) performs similarly.
In haemodynamically unstable patients, changes in CPV and PPV during a TV challenge (6 to 8 ml/kg) were assessed and compared with cardiac output response after fluid bolus.
Key Finding:
Changes in CPV variation predicted volume responsiveness similarly to changes in PPV following a tidal volume challenge.
This suggests CPV may serve as a useful non-invasive alternative for assessing fluid responsiveness in critically ill patients.

Large unstained cells (LUCs) are peroxidase-negative mononuclear cells that include large lymphocytes, plasma cells, blasts, and atypical lymphoid cells. Elevated LUC% on automated hematology analyzers can often indicate underlying hematological or infectious conditions.
Absolute LUC count (≥0.5 × 10³ cells/µL) may serve as a cost-effective and readily available marker for identifying clinically suspicious hematolymphoid neoplasms when interpreted with other CBC parameters. However, peripheral smear review remains essential for confirmation.

The manuscript review process in academic publishing is complex, and figures play a crucial role in communicating research findings effectively.
In our survey of clinicians, editors, and reviewers from imaging journals, 91.7% reported that figures are highly important in manuscripts. Original images and schematics were the most preferred figure types, and many respondents believed that combining schematics with original images could improve manuscript acceptance. However, the number of figures alone did not influence reviewer favourability. Concise, informative figure legends were also considered essential.
This study highlights that well-designed figures should complement methodological rigour and clear writing, helping improve reviewer perception and potentially increasing the likelihood of manuscript acceptance.

Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) remain a major challenge in healthcare, contributing to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs.
In our cross-sectional study across seven cardiac centres in Addis Ababa, we evaluated healthcare workers’ knowledge and practices related to CLABSI prevention. The study found that 85.8% of healthcare workers had good knowledge and 73.5% demonstrated good preventive practices. Factors such as higher education level, training, peer education participation, and work experience were significantly associated with better knowledge and practice.
These findings emphasise the importance of ongoing training programmes and continuous professional development initiatives to strengthen infection prevention strategies and improve patient safety in healthcare settings.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies—most often diagnosed in children and typically located within the thorax. Their occurrence in adults, especially in the neck, is exceptionally uncommon.
In our case report, a 51-year-old female presented with chronic mild throat pain for one year. Clinical examination was largely unremarkable, with only a subtle swelling on the right side of the neck on palpation. Radiological evaluation revealed a cystic lesion at the cricoid level.
Surgical excision was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a bronchogenic cyst.
This case highlights the importance of considering rare congenital lesions in the differential diagnosis of adult neck masses, even when clinical findings are subtle.

🧠 Pseudotumor Cerebri (PTC)—also known as benign intracranial hypertension—is a condition characterised by increased intracranial pressure, papilledema, optic nerve damage, and vision disturbances, despite the absence of a brain tumour.
A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines analysed over 12,000 patients, examining the diagnosis, surgical management, complications, and populations affected by Pseudotumor Cerebri and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH).
Understanding the causes and management of PTC is essential to prevent vision loss and improve patient outcomes.

Prediabetes is a prevalent condition in India. Dietary and lifestyle modifications provide the most efficacious intervention to halt the advancement of the illness. We performed a randomized controlled trial of a nutritional intervention, comparing the efficacy of rusk produced from finger millet, barley, and refined flour. The experiment lasted six months. At the conclusion of the study, we observed a significant reduction in fasting plasma glucose, postprandial plasma glucose and HbA1c levels in the finer millet and barley group. There were linked benefits in terms of increased hemoglobin and serum calcium levels without any substantial detrimental effects.
