HIV Uncovered: Risks, Prevention & What You Need to Know
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system—specifically the CD4 (T) cells—weakening your ability to fight infections. If untreated, it can progress to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the most advanced stage.
⚠️ Factors That Increase Risk of HIV Infection
HIV spreads through certain body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids, re**al fluids, breast milk). Key risk factors include:
1)Multiple s*xual partners
2)Sharing needles/syringes (e.g., drug use)
3)Blood transfusion with unscreened blood
4)Mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding
🚨 Symptoms of HIV
HIV symptoms vary by stage:
Early (Acute Stage: 2–4 weeks after infection)
1)Fever
2)Fatigue
3)Sore throat
4)Rash
5)Swollen lymph nodes
(Often mistaken for flu)
Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is an emergency treatment taken after potential exposure to HIV.
1)Must be started within 72 hours (sooner is better)
2)Taken for 28 days
3)Used after events like unprotected s*x, needle injury, etc.
HIV is preventable, manageable, and treatable. With early diagnosis and proper treatment, people living with HIV can lead long, healthy lives and reduce transmission to nearly zero.
