Choking in infants is a serious emergency that can become life-threatening within minutes. It occurs when an object or food blocks the airway, preventing normal breathing and oxygen flow to the lungs and brain.

Signs include difficulty breathing or noisy breathing, Weak or no crying sound, Inability to cough, Bluish lips, face or fingertips, Sudden distress or panic

Infants under 1 year are at the highest risk.

Inability to speak, coughing, gagging, difficulty in breathing, skin, lips and nails turning blue or grey and loss of consciousness.

โ—† Attempt to cough hard
โ—† Place a fist slightly above your navel
โ—† Grasp your fist with the other hand
โ—† Lean over a table countertop or chair
โ—† Thrust your body, pulling your fist inward and upward to force it out

Remember, staying calm and acting quickly is crucial when dealing with a choking emergency. Call for medical help. If unconscious, perform CPR.

Avoid talking while eating, chew your food carefully, and be mindful of what you eat. Older adults should be especially cautious, as difficulty chewing or swallowing can increase the risk of choking.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition in which heat overwhelms your bodyโ€™s ability to manage its temperature.

The peak months of heat waves in India are from April to July. It is important to adopt preventive measures.
