Independence doesn’t start with doing everything alone. It starts with being given the opportunity to try.
For an autistic child, everyday activities like, putting on shoes, pouring water, cleaning up toys, packing a school bag, or washing hands can become meaningful opportunities to build independence and confidence.
Instead of always stepping in, try:
✨ Give clear, simple instructions
✨ Break tasks into smaller steps
✨ Give them enough time to try
✨ Offer support when needed
✨ Celebrate their effort, not just the outcome
Every child develops at their own pace. The goal isn’t to rush them, it’s to guide, support, and gradually create more opportunities for independent living skills.
Guide them. Trust them. Let them try. 💙
