⚠️ Ovarian Lump or Thickened Endometrium? Know When to See a Gynecologic Oncologist

When should you consult a Gynecologic Oncologist?

If an ultrasound shows an ovarian lump, a cyst has complex features, an ovarian cyst appears after menopause, endometrial thickness is increased, a uterine biopsy shows abnormal cells or cancer, ascites (fluid in the abdomen) is present, or there is a family history of ovarian or breast cancer — a detailed evaluation is important.

The earlier the right evaluation is done, the better the chances of timely diagnosis and improved outcomes.

Early evaluation can make all the difference.

Don’t ignore warning signs — awareness and timely action save lives.

HPV Positive Doesn’t Mean Cancer 🚨 But Don’t Ignore It!

HPV is a very common viral infection, and most women may get HPV at some point in their lives. The good news is that in more than 90% of cases, a healthy immune system clears the infection naturally.

The concern arises when the infection persists for a long time. What to do next depends on your age, the type of HPV, and your Pap smear results. In such cases, doctors may advise follow-up, repeat testing after some time, or a colposcopy.
An HPV-positive report does NOT mean cancer, but it should never be ignored. Early evaluation and regular follow-up are important for your health and peace of mind.

If your HPV report is positive, please consult a gynae oncologist for proper evaluation and treatment.

Ovarian Cysts: When Are They Normal… and When Should You Worry?

Ovarian cysts are very common, especially in young women, and most are harmless functional cysts that form during the menstrual cycle and disappear on their own. But some cysts need proper evaluation — especially if they are large (6–8 cm), increasing in size, persistent across multiple cycles, or show abnormal features like solid components or septations on scans.

Symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, loss of appetite, or cysts detected after menopause should never be ignored. While not every ovarian cyst is cancerous, some ovarian masses can carry a risk of malignancy and must be evaluated carefully.

Treatment depends on the type of cyst — some only need observation and follow-up scans, while complex or suspicious cysts may require surgery. Importantly, if there is a risk of ovarian cancer, laparoscopic surgery may not be suitable because rupture of the mass can potentially spread cancer cells. In such cases, open surgery is often the safer option.

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst or ovarian mass, don’t panic — consult a gynae oncologist for proper evaluation and treatment.

CA-125 Test: Necessary or Just Fear-Driven? 🤔

Many people opt for the CA-125 test during routine health checkups due to fear of ovarian cancer—but is it really necessary?

CA-125 is a blood test used to evaluate ovarian conditions, but it is a non-specific marker. This means it doesn’t rise only in cancer—it can also be elevated in several benign or even normal conditions, such as:
• Endometriosis
• Fibroids
• Pelvic infections
• Even during menstruation

At the same time, CA-125 can be normal in early-stage ovarian cancer.

👉 Using it as a routine screening test can lead to two major issues:

1) False alarms (unnecessary anxiety)
2) Unnecessary investigations and procedures

✔️ CA-125 is more useful when:
• An ovarian cyst or mass is already detected
• The patient falls into a high-risk category

❗ Important: It should never be used as a standalone routine screening test.

Do not ignore your symptoms—but always get them evaluated properly by a qualified doctor.
If you or a family member has an ovarian cyst/mass with elevated CA-125 levels, consult a gynae oncologist promptly.

After Menopause, Bleeding Isn’t Normal—Check It Early

Postmenopausal bleeding refers to any va**nal bleeding that occurs after 12 months of no periods following menopause. It may be caused by conditions like Endometrial Atrophy, polyps, hormonal changes, or more serious issues such as Endometrial Cancer.

Evaluation typically includes a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and sometimes an endometrial biopsy to identify the cause. Early diagnosis is crucial—many underlying conditions are highly treatable when detected in time.

If you or someone you know experiences postmenopausal bleeding, don’t delay seeking medical advice. Prompt evaluation can ensure peace of mind and protect long-term health.

Uterine Fibroids: Silent Growths You Shouldn’t Ignore

Uterine Fibroids are common growths that develop in or around the uterus, especially during reproductive years. The good news—they are non-cancerous (benign) and rarely turn into cancer.

However, they can still impact your health and quality of life. Many women may not notice symptoms, but others can experience:

Heavy or prolonged periods
Pelvic pain or pressure
Frequent urination
Bloating or abdominal swelling
Pain during in*******se

Warning signs to watch for:

Severe or persistent pelvic pain
Very heavy bleeding leading to fatigue (possible anemia)
Rapid increase in abdominal size
Difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel

While fibroids aren’t usually dangerous, they shouldn’t be ignored. Early medical advice can help manage symptoms and prevent complications. If you notice unusual changes, it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional.
