Yoganusasanam - Iyengar Yoga Delhi Yoganusasanam by Neeru Kathpal offers classes based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the foremost exponents of yoga in the world today. K. S.

Neeru Kathpal started learning Iyengar Yoga in 1999. She is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and a regular practitioner for over 15 years now. She dedicated herself to Iyengar Yoga in 2000 and began teaching in 2010. Neeru has had the great fortune to receive her teacher training certificate from BKS Iyengar. Neeru follows the traditional, disciplined Iyengar approach to yoga with a lot of energy

and humor. Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that is characterized by great attention to detail and precise focus on body alignment. Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, bolsters, benches and blankets etc as aids in performing asanas. The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain, and also allowing elderly, injured, tired or ill students to enjoy the benefits of many asanas via fully supported methods. Iyengar Yoga differs from the other styles of yoga by three key elements: Technique, Sequence and Timing.

• Technique refers to the precision of the body alignment and the performance of pranayama.
• Sequence means the sequences in which asanas and breathing exercises are practiced. Following the specific sequence is important in achieving the desired result, because only the combination of certain poses and breathing techniques can ensure the expected positive effect.
• Timing is the third key element, which defines the time spent in each pose or pranayama.

“Do not be afraid of body-pains. That is the part of the game of practice. One has to overcome these as the set of muscles cannot work harmoniously in the beginning.
Do not practice mechanically. Life is dynamic and practice should be like a live wire. Practice should take one beyond the ‘body-mind’ apparatus though they are used as instruments.
Citta Prasadanam (diffusion of consciousness) throughout the practice of yoga is essential. One needs to analyse the aches and pains of the body.
One needs to go into it to know the cause, so one finds the means to come out of it.”

If extension is from the intelligence of the brain, expansion is from the intelligence of the heart. While doing an asan, both the intellectual intelligence and the emotional intelligence have to meet and work together. Extension is attention, and expansion is awareness., I often say. It is the bringing of attention and awareness to the tips of your body and activating the skin.

Purvottanasana (Upward Plank Pose) in Iyengar yoga focuses on precise anatomical alignment, chest opening, and shoulder strengthening. Because of its intensity on the wrists and back, the Iyengar method often uses props to make the pose accessible and therapeutic, emphasizing deep stretching of the front body.

"Sarvangasana develops the feminine qualities of patience and emotional stability. As a mother struggles throughout her life for the happiness of her children, the 'mother of asanas' strives for peace and health of the body."

Stiffness in the lower back often comes from the way we move, stand, and sit every day.
In Trikonasana, proper alignment makes all the difference.
Using the rope support helps create space, stability, and awareness in the pose without collapsing into the lower back. As Neeru Ma’am explains, “When your outer hip goes back, automatically your groin moves forward.”

Gentle practice. Precise action. Lasting benefits.

Practice Iyengar Yoga with guidance at Yoganusasanam.

Every body understands the pose differently.
Sometimes support is what helps us discover the action more clearly.
These variations of Adho Mukha Svanasana are not “easier versions” they are ways to create awareness, stability, extension, and quietness in the body and mind.
From ropes to bolsters to blocks, each support teaches something unique about the pose.

Which variation would you like to try first?
