Normally weeding is required thrice in a year( one crop season).

This is the only source of income for the Kukis of Karbi Anglong Assam.

Happy 73rd d Independence Day to Our Great Nation, India

In the last 72 years since Independence We see our country achieved so many feats in all fields.
And being a citizen we feel proud when our country is doing great.
It's a proud moment indeed our country being known largest democracy in the world.

While we count the growth and achievements let us not forget our country is not yet a fully developed Nation.
There are still many places which are deprived of the fruit of Independence, still Unadministered.
One of those places is my native place.
Our area which is also called "Kuki Pahar" In Karbi Anglong District of Assam, India still remains out of development.
We don't have representative in the council and the state. No road, no electricity, no schools, nothing..

The whole populace solely depends on agriculture.
And it's a matter of pride that we are knowingly or unknowingly the top producer of Organic ginger in the country.

Our small movement for creation of "Kuki Regional Council" meant for development and prosperity of the entire populace living in the propose regional council remains unresolved or to be precise Unheard.

While being proud of being Indian and celebrating its 72 years of Independence I appeal to the Govt of Karbi Anglong, Assam and India to pave the way for development of all irrespective of caste, creed or religion so that our country as a whole prosper.

Even after 71 years of Independence, and even as the country is talking about digital INDIA, there are certain parts of our country where there is still no development at all in all aspects.

One mongst the unreached is the KukiGam (Singhasan and Khumbamon Hills) which is a home for mainly the KUKIS besides Karbis, Garos, Nepalis, etc in negligible numbers.
Here the people are deprived of basic amenities like Roads, Schools, employment, etc.
The main source of livilihood has been Jhumming or slash and burnt method of cultivation. The main crops grown are Paddy, Ginger, vegetables etc out of which Ginger is cultivated mainly for commercial purpose and others for self consumption.

The people had to carry their agricultural produce by their own as there is no transportation as shown in the pic below.
This made life harder but still the people has got no other choices.

And you will find no schools in almost 90% of villages, ans thus the children are deprived of even basic education which is the fundamental rights of a child. And where there are schools it is with only a single teacher which is not meeting the requirements. Since a single teacher can not take care of all students and classes.

It's high time the Govt should wake up and listen to the demands of the Kukis and help grow the Nation together. We can't progress until we grow together.
