๐จ "No Motile S***m Found After Washing"... Does This Mean There's No Hope?
Not necessarily.
One of the most common misconceptions is that no movement = no chance of fatherhood. But in fertility medicine, the answer isn't always that simple.
Here's why ๐
๐งฌ Motility and viability are NOT the same.
A s***m may not be moving, but that doesn't automatically mean it's non-viable. In selected clinical situations, additional laboratory assessments can help determine whether s***m are still alive.
๐ฌ What happens in the lab?
If no progressively motile s***m are identified after s***m washing, the embryology team doesn't jump to conclusions. The findings are carefully reviewed, and the result is interpreted alongside:
โข The original semen analysis
โข Medical history
โข Cause of infertility
โข Previous treatment outcomes
๐จโโ๏ธ The next step is individualized.
Depending on the complete clinical picture, your fertility specialist may recommend:
โ๏ธ Further evaluation
โ๏ธ Repeat testing (when appropriate)
โ๏ธ Additional male fertility assessment
โ๏ธ A different assisted reproductive approach if needed
A single lab finding never tells the whole story.
Every fertility journey is unique, and every treatment plan should be based on the complete clinical pictureโnot just one parameter.
๐ Don't panic over one report. Discuss it with your fertility specialist to understand what it means for your specific situation.
