Mammography is widely recognised as one of the most effective tools for breast cancer detection but cost, infrastructure and the need for trained radiologists limit its reach for millions of women in low-resource settings.

A study published in JCO Global Oncology evaluated iBreastExam as a triage tool alongside clinical breast examination and mammography — and the findings make a compelling case for a smarter approach to breast health screening where conventional imaging is simply not available.|

iBreastExam is not a replacement for mammography. It is a triage tool that ensures scarce imaging capacity reaches the women who genuinely need it, irrespective of where they are.

Ninety-nine in a hundred women in India between 30 and 49 have never had a breast examination.

The National Family Health Survey puts the figure at 0.9%. The National Cancer Registry Programme records the heaviest breast cancer burden from 35 onward. The disease arrives within those years while the examination does not.

Imaging confirms a suspicion. But a woman only reaches imaging if someone examined her first.

So the first examination has to travel (to a primary health centre, a camp, or a clinic) and a trained nurse or lab technician has to be able to perform it.

That is the step iBreastExam is built for: a handheld breast screening device from UE LifeSciences that flags lumps or lesions for referral before any decision on imaging is taken.

Cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable cancers, yet its burden persists across LMICs, largely because the diagnostic tools that can change outcomes have not yet reached the settings where they are needed most.

At the 15th AOGIN India Conference 2026, Dr. Neerja Bhatla, Padma Shri awardee and Professor and Head, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, AIIMS New Delhi, will lead a dedicated workshop on Point of Care High Risk HPV Assays, bringing together clinicians and researchers to advance the conversation on accessible, early detection for cervical cancer.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection spread through floodwater and soil contaminated with animal urine — most often rats. It starts with fever, headache, and muscle pain, symptoms easy to dismiss as a passing illness. But left undiagnosed, it can progress to kidney failure, liver damage, meningitis, or death.

Recently, Manila declared leptospirosis as an epidemic as nationwide, 6,253 cases and 378 deaths were recorded across the Philippines since January 2026.

Symptoms alone can't confirm it. Early diagnosis is critical and timely antibiotic treatment can significantly reduce severe complications and mortality. Truenat LTS enables direct identification of Leptospira DNA, allowing diagnosis during the acute phase, when intervention matters most.
