_GIRLS’ HEALTH & HYGIENE ISSUES — NCC CAMP (3 BATTALION)_

A health education session on _“Girls’ Health & Hygiene Issues_ was successfully conducted at the NCC Camp (3 Battalion) to promote awareness, healthy practices, and confidence among adolescent girls.

A pre-test quiz was conducted before the session to assess baseline knowledge, followed by a post-test quiz to assess knowledge gained and the effectiveness of the session.

Key Topics Covered:

1. Puberty and associated physical and emotional changes
2. Menstrual hygiene, myths & facts, and when to seek medical care
3. Intimate hygiene
4. Anemia and its prevention
5. Balanced diet and healthy nutrition
6. Importance of staying physically active
7. Mental health and emotional well-being
8. Healthy everyday habits
9. Good touch, bad touch, personal boundaries, and trusted people
10. Digital and cyber safety
11. Vaccination for girls — HPV, tetanus, and routine immunization
12. Self-confidence, self-respect, and believing in oneself
13. ⁠Drug Abuse & Antibiotic resistance.

The session provided a safe and interactive platform for the girls to learn, clarify misconceptions, ask questions, and develop greater confidence in taking care of their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Monitoring and Supervision Visit to Tingvong HWC-SHC

*Mangan District, 12 August 2026:A team from District Hospital Mangan, comprising the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), District Reproductive and Child Health Officer (DRCHO), District Public Health Nursing Officer (DPHNO), District Programme Manager (DPM), and Lady Health Visitor (LHV), visited **HWC-SHC Tingvong** for monitoring and supervision of the health facility.

During the visit, the team reviewed the overall functioning of the facility, including service delivery, infrastructure, records and documentation, and the availability of essential resources. The team also assessed the facility’s preparedness for the upcoming **National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) Assessment**.

The visit focused on identifying areas requiring improvement and providing necessary guidance to the facility staff to ensure compliance with quality standards. The team encouraged the healthcare workers to maintain proper documentation, strengthen service delivery, and ensure readiness across all relevant NQAS parameters.

The monitoring visit reflects the commitment of District Hospital Mangan towards strengthening primary healthcare services and ensuring delivery of safe, accessible and quality healthcare

An AYUSH Outreach Health-cum-Screening Camp was successfully conducted at Saffo-Salim Pakyel on 12/08/2026 , by a team from PHC Chungthang with the aim of bringing essential healthcare and preventive health services closer to the community. The camp focused on early detection of common health conditions, promotion of healthy lifestyle practices, awareness regarding AYUSH systems, and strengthening community participation in preventive healthcare.
The camp was conducted by a dedicated team comprising of MO/IC, MO(AYUSH), PMOA, Pharmacist, and staffs from Salim Pakyel Sub-Centre.

Key IEC and Health Awareness Activities:
○IEC on AYUSH System: Awareness regarding the AYUSH systems of healthcare and the role of Ayurveda in promoting healthy living and disease prevention.
○Dinacharya: Importance of maintaining a healthy daily routine, including proper diet, sleep, personal hygiene, physical activity, and other healthy lifestyle practices.
○Substance Abuse Awareness: Awareness regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of adopting a substance-free lifestyle, aligning with the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat.

Healthcare Services and Screening Activities:
○Medical consultation and health check-up with distribution of medicines as advised during consultation
○Blood pressure screening .
○Random Blood Sugar (RBS) screening.
○Hemoglobin screening for identification of possible anemia
○Height and weight measurement with BMI assessment for screening of underweight, overweight, and obesity.

A total of 71 participants were registered and all 71 participants were screened during the camp. The screening findings were:
○Total Registered: 71

○Pre-hypertension: 8
○Hypertension Screening Positive: 3
○Raised Random Blood Sugar (RBS): 18
○Diabetes Screening Positive: 4
○Mild Anemia: 15
○Moderate Anemia: 8
○Severe Anemia: Nil
○Underweight: 2
○Overweight: 18
○Obesity: 7

The screening findings enabled the early identification of individuals requiring further evaluation and appropriate follow-up. Participants with abnormal screening results were provided with necessary health advice and counselling and were advised to seek further medical evaluation wherever required.The camp served as an important platform for early screening, preventive healthcare, health education, and promotion of AYUSH-based healthy lifestyle practices among the community.

Intensified IEC Campaign on HIV/AIDS in Observance of International Youth Day. Dated:12/08/2026. Venue: Conference Hall, District Hospital Mangan.
On the occasion of International Youth Day, the District AIDS Control Society organized an Intensified IEC Campaign on HIV/AIDS with the active participation of youth and community members. During the programme, District AIDS Control Society Officer, Dr. Dawa Dolma Bhutia, briefed the participants on HIV/AIDS, including its modes of transmission, common myths and misconceptions, preventive measures, and the important role of youth in spreading correct information and awareness.
As part of the programme, on-site screening and testing services were also provided for Syphilis, Hepatitis B and blood sugar, enabling participants to access basic health screening services at the venue and encouraging early detection and timely health-seeking behaviour.
A remarkable and touching dance performance by Mangan Dream Dance Academy highlighted the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and emphasized the role of young people in building a healthy, responsible and substance-free society. The performance effectively conveyed the message that youth can play a significant role in preventing substance abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles.
IEC materials related to HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness were distributed among the participants. The programme also emphasized the importance of building a healthy society free from HIV/AIDS-related stigma and discrimination, encouraging empathy, support and respect towards people living with HIV.

District AIDS Control Society Gyalshing in collaboration with Khangchendzonga Motorcycle Club and Yuksam & Tashiding PHC Observed International Youth Day today.
A Motorcycle Rally was organised to raise awareness on HIV AIDS, Safe sexual practices and Drug Abuse.
The programme was graced by Hon'ble Zilla Adhakshya Shri D S Limboo, SDM Yuksam Shri Jesse Targain, MOIC Yuksam Dr. Biswas Basnet, MO-I/C Tashiding Drm Tshering Thendup Sherpa, Counsellor ICTC Smt. Pema Bhutia.
Counsellor ICTC, spoke on HIV AIDS, its transmission and prevention, Dr. Biswas Basnet MO-I/C Yuksam gave a general overview of the days programme and IEC on safe sexual practices and Drug abuse.
SDM Shri Jesse Targain spoke on his personal work on PLHA, their rehabilitation and drug abuse.
Hon'ble Zilla Adhakshya Shri D S Limboo spoke on the importance of youth in tackling modern day problems like HIV, TB and Health.
Condom Distribution to the general public was also done.

On 12th August 2026, the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, 50-Bedded AYUSH Hospital, Gyalshing, successfully organised an AYUSH Outreach Health Camp at Gram Prashashan Kendra (GPK-09), Thingling.
The camp provided essential health services, including general health screening, blood pressure check-up, blood sugar testing, haemoglobin screening, and free distribution of medicines.
The camp was led by Medical Officers (AYUSH), Dr. Menkila Tamang and Dr. Arpana Sharma, along with the staff of AYUSH Hospital, Gyalshing, and HWC Thingling.
A total of 123 beneficiaries availed the services during the outreach health camp.

The training was attended by Ms. Sabitri Gurung, JS (Sanitation); Mrs. Bindhya Subedi, DHEO; Mr. Hem Raj Chettri, DAM; and Mrs. Bala Chettri, DEO, along with Medical Officer Dr. Darshan Gurung, staff of Dentam PHC, and VHSNC members.
The session focused on strengthening the understanding and functioning of VHSNC members and promoting community participation in health, sanitation, nutrition and related activities.
