Milk is not the best source of calcium. Shocked?

We were always told that you should always have a glass of milk to fulfil your requirements. Very often, even doctors recommend adding a glass of milk daily.
but is milk the only best source of calcium in this world?
what about those people who do not like milk, if you are lactose intolerant, if you are suffering from PCOD/PCOS and you are calcium deficient at the same time?

Before the food revolution, grains like ragi were the staple food of Indian society. Even today, it is consumed on a daily basis in some parts of India. It has almost three times more calcium than milk which makes it a superfood and a very good choice for Vegans, Lactose intolerant people and PCOS/PCOD patients.

Often, if a product is promoted by a big and well-known brand, you never bother to check the labels. You just trust the brand and assume what is being promoted is right.

One of the most asked questions is - can behave a light Namkeen like packed murmura which is often promoted as a sensible snack? It is ok to have unflavored puffed rice (murmura) at home. But have you ever checked what actually goes inside the packet to make the murmura more tasty that is not easily doable at home?

Let us shed some light on this - a 30 rupees packed light murmura has about 792 calories and 42 gm of fat.

𝙄𝙣 𝙣𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩.

We went ahead and compared the pack with 2 deep-fried samosas which are often known as one of the most unhealthy snacks in the Indian market. Guess what - 2 deep fried samosas have about 536 calories and 34 gm fat, i.e. fewer calories and less fat than the pack of so-called healthy nankeen.

𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙? 𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚.

If you really are looking for a healthy light snack - why not make the murmura at home? Add some fresh onion, tomato, cucumber, lemon juice and some mint chutney and you have a tasty healthy snack ready. If you don't want to do all of this - just roast/put the murmura in an oven for a few minutes and add some seasoning to it. You have a healthy snack ready in less than 5 minutes.

BOTTOM LINE

The best strategy to live a healthy life is not what to have and what to avoid but to be aware of what you are eating. Be a mindful eater. We keep on reminding you again and again - read the label. It might change your perception of looking at so-called healthy packed foods.
