Vel Amavasya: A Celebration of Harvest and Gratitude! 🌾
Vel Amavasya is a unique and vibrant festival that honors Mother Earth and the bountiful winter harvest! Celebrated primarily in the border regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka, it’s a day for farmers and families to express gratitude to nature.
Key Traditions:
Farm Feasts: Families gather in their fields for a communal picnic, enjoying special traditional dishes made from local produce like millet and green leaves.
Unique Delicacies: The highlight is the specific festive food, including rodga (millet flatbread), ambil (a fermented millet drink stored in earthen pots), and various fritters and sweet treats.
Nature Worship: Rituals involve worshiping trees and the soil, placing symbolic representations of the Pandavas in a temporary hut made of crop remnants, and praying for a prosperous future harvest.
