🌿 Healthy Ageing Begins Long Before Old Age
On World Senior Citizens Day, we celebrate our seniors—but healthy ageing is something we can start preparing for much earlier.
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at NTPC’s “Health at 40” session, where I shared practical ways to stay healthy and plan proactively for the years ahead.
The message was simple: our 40s are not just about managing today’s health—they are about investing in our future health.
Some important steps towards healthy ageing:
💪 Build and maintain muscle strength
🥗 Eat a balanced diet with adequate protein
❤️ Keep blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol under control
🧠 Protect brain and cognitive health
😴 Prioritise sleep and mental well-being
🚶 Stay physically and socially active
💉 Keep vaccinations up to date
🩺 Get regular routine health check-ups
👁️ Take care of vision, hearing and dental health
🛡️ Prevent falls and preserve mobility and independence
As a geriatrician, I believe longevity is not just about adding years to life—it is about adding healthy, independent and meaningful years to life.
Let’s start preparing for healthy ageing before health problems begin.
Start early. Age well. Live independently. 🌿
Happy World Senior Citizens Day!
