Many families are still surrounded by mud, and access to safe drinking water remains a major challenge. Instead of distributing bottled water now, the priority should be ensuring a reliable community water supply through fire services or other available means.

Large-scale cleaning and home restoration are equally important. Most families cannot afford to remove mud or repair damaged homes on their own. The government should coordinate village-level cleanup using manpower and machinery.

While restoration efforts, including power supply, have begun, greater focus is needed on clean water, sanitation, and rehabilitation. Local administration, Fire Brigade, NDRF/SDRF, and volunteers should work together, giving priority to elderly residents and families without able-bodied members.

Hyperthyroidism means the thyroid gland is overactive and produces more thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) than your body needs. These hormones regulate your metabolism, heart rate, body temperature, and energy levels.

What happens in hyperthyroidism?

Think of your thyroid as your body’s “speed controller.” In hyperthyroidism, it’s turned up too high, so many body functions run faster than normal.

Common causes

* Graves’ disease (the most common cause; an autoimmune disorder)
* Toxic multinodular goiter
* Toxic thyroid adenoma (single overactive nodule)
* Thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid)
* Taking too much thyroid hormone medication

Symptoms

* Unexplained weight loss despite eating normally or more
* Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
* Tremors (shaking hands)
* Anxiety, irritability, or nervousness
* Heat intolerance and excessive sweating
* Frequent bowel movements
* Difficulty sleeping
* Muscle weakness
* Menstrual irregularities
* Enlarged thyroid (goiter)
* In Graves’ disease, some people develop bulging eyes

Diagnosis

Doctors usually order:

* TSH – typically low
* Free T4 – typically high
* Free T3 – may also be high
* Thyroid antibodies (if Graves’ disease is suspected)
* Thyroid ultrasound or radioactive iodine uptake scan, when needed.
