PKD may progress silently for years, making early detection, regular monitoring, and timely medical care extremely important. Symptoms may include high blood pressure, abdominal or back pain, blood in the urine, recurrent urinary infections, or changes in kidney function. However, some people may have no obvious symptoms in the early stages.
