Kashaya
Kashaya or Kadha is a traditional drink with nuts and seeds. Mainly used during cold, cough or climate change causing allergies.
This is my Ammamma's recipe, you can also add cardamom to it, I avoided it as I don't like the taste.
You need to store the Kashaya powder in an air-tight container (preferably a glass jar) and store in a shelf (not direct sunlight) for months.
Nutritional benefits of the ingredients that i have used.
1. Coriander seeds: cooling, digestive effect, contains antioxidants.
2. Cumin seeds: supports digestion, helps with bloating.
3. Methi seeds: contains soluble fiber and compounds that help in post meal glucose control.
4. Dry Ginger: warming, digestive effects. Used for nausea and respiratory discomfort.
5. Licorice: soothing for sore throat and cough, anti inflammatory properties (Glycyrrhizin). Use with caution.
6. Nutmeg: used for better digestion, sleep/calming. High doses are toxic.
7. Black pepper: digestive effects, warming, used for respiratory discomfort. Piperine may enhance bioavailability of other compounds like curcumin.
8. Cinnamon: modest evidence of glycemic control. Warming and better digestion.
9. Cloves: Eugenol has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties
10. Poppy seeds: used for soothing and relaxation. A culinary ingredient in kashaya.
