🌾 Millets & Thyroid: Friend or Foe?

Can you eat millets if you have thyroid issues?
Yes—in moderation and with the right choices!

Millets like jowar, ragi, bajra, foxtail and little millet provide fibre, minerals and complex carbohydrates.

However, excessive intake of certain millets may not be ideal in hypothyroidism, particularly when iodine intake is inadequate.

✅ Rotate millets with rice and wheat
✅ Avoid depending on one millet every day
✅ Prefer soaked, fermented or well-cooked preparations
✅ Ensure adequate iodine, selenium, zinc and protein
✅ Maintain the advised gap between thyroid medication and meals

The key is not elimination—it’s moderation, variety and balance. 🌿

Low Protein: The New Health Trend?

The recent trend of eating less protein for longevity needs some context.

Protein is essential for muscle health, recovery, satiety and healthy ageing. For most healthy adults, ~0.8 g/kg/day is the basic minimum, while 1.0–1.2 g/kg/day may be more appropriate for many adults. Those who exercise regularly or are trying to preserve muscle during weight loss may need ~1.2–1.6 g/kg/day.

The goal is not maximum protein — it’s adequate protein.

⚠️ People with kidney or liver disease should not change their protein intake without professional guidance.

🌿 Don’t fear protein. Don’t overdo it. Get the right amount for YOUR body.

🌿 Fighting the Flu? Feed Your Recovery!

When you have H1N1, your body needs hydration, nourishment and plenty of rest. ❤️‍🩹

💧 Stay hydrated
Warm water, coconut water, soups, kanji and ORS when needed.

🍲 Choose light, nourishing meals
Moong dal khichdi, dal-rice, idli, daliya, vegetable soups and soft cooked foods.

🥚 Include protein
Dal, curd if tolerated, paneer, eggs, fish or chicken.

🍎 Add fruits & vegetables
Choose fresh, seasonal options that are easy to digest.

🚫 Avoid
Deep-fried foods, very spicy meals, excess sugar, alcohol and heavy meals.

✨ Small meals + plenty of fluids + adequate rest = better support for recovery.

Remember: Food supports recovery, but it does not cure H1N1. Follow your doctor’s treatment advice.
