🧠 Did you know why brain aneurysms form and whether they are always dangerous?

Most aneurysms form at the branching points of brain blood vessels, the reason being that area naturally has more stress as the blood flows across them. Over a period of time, that branching point weakens and may bulge outwards, forming an aneurysm.

So, here is the important part: most aneurysms never rupture. Many people live their entire life with small, stable aneurysms without any problem. However, if the aneurysm does rupture, it may produce something like bleeding around the brain, around the water in the brain. If it happens, it is a life-threatening emergency.

Dr. Suresh Giragani (MBBS, MD, DM, Sr. Interventional Radiologist at Apollo Hospitals Jubilee Hills) breaks down everything you need to know about brain aneurysms. Early awareness and timely diagnosis save lives!

If you have been advised to undergo a DSA procedure in Hyderabad, understanding the process can help reduce anxiety and prepare you for the examination. Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) is considered the gold standard for diagnosing vascular disorders, including brain aneurysms, stroke, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), carotid artery disease, and other blood vessel abnormalities.

For decades, surgery was the default answer whenever a tumor was found in the abdomen. Open or laparoscopic resection meant general anesthesia, days of hospital recovery, and meaningful risk for patients who were older, frail, or living with other health conditions. Cryoablation has changed that equation. By guiding a thin probe directly into a tumor and freezing it to lethal temperatures, interventional radiologists can now destroy many abdominal tumors through a single small skin puncture

Gastric varices are enlarged veins that develop in the stomach due to increased pressure within the portal venous system, a condition known as portal hypertension. They are most commonly seen in patients with liver cirrhosis and can lead to life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding if left untreated.
Advances in Interventional Radiology have transformed the management of gastric varices through minimally invasive procedures such as Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPSS) and Balloon-Occluded Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration (BRTO). Both procedures are highly effective but serve different purposes depending on the patient’s anatomy, liver function, and underlying disease.

This 42-year-old suddenly lost movement on one side of his body, his speech slurred, his arm went weak. His family recognized the signs of stroke immediately and rushed him to us. The angiogram showed a major artery completely blocked, no blood reaching the brain, and every minute meant more brain cells lost.
Through a tiny pinhole in the wrist, we guided a catheter up to the clot and removed it. Mechanical thrombectomy. No open surgery, no big incision. Just a few days later, he walked out of the clinic on his own.
Stroke is an emergency. Every second matters. Don't wait, reach out in time.
Remember BE FAST:
Balance – sudden imbalance or difficulty walking
Eyes – sudden loss of vision
Face – facial drooping or deviation
Arms – weakness or loss of power in the arms
Speech – slurred or lost speech
Time – call 1066 immediately
Clots can be removed, but only if you reach us in time.
