Endocrine Gland – Explained Simply
Endocrine glands are special glands in our body that produce hormones and release them directly into the bloodstream (they do not use ducts).
Hormones act like chemical messengers that control many important body functions.
🔹 What do endocrine glands do?
They help regulate:
Growth and development
Metabolism (energy use)
Mood and emotions
S*xual development & reproduction
Blood sugar and blood pressure
Stress response
🔹 Major Endocrine Glands & Their Functions
1️⃣ Hypothalamus
Link between nervous system and endocrine system
Controls pituitary gland
Maintains body balance (temperature, hunger)
2️⃣ Pituitary Gland (Master Gland)
Controls other endocrine glands
Hormones affect growth, thyroid, reproduction
3️⃣ Pineal Gland
Produces melatonin
Regulates sleep–wake cycle
4️⃣ Thyroid Gland
Controls metabolism, body temperature
Produces thyroxine
5️⃣ Parathyroid Glands
Control calcium levels
Important for bones and teeth
6️⃣ Adrenal Glands
Produce adrenaline & cortisol
Help body respond to stress
7️⃣ Pancreas (Endocrine part)
Produces insulin & glucagon
Controls blood sugar level
8️⃣ Go**ds
Te**es (male): testosterone, s***m production
Ovaries (female): estrogen, progesterone, eggs
🔹 Key Difference: Endocrine vs Exocrine
Endocrine
Exocrine
No ducts
Have ducts
Hormones to blood
Secretions via ducts
Slow but long-lasting
Fast but short action
🧠 Easy Memory Tip
“Endocrine = Enter blood”
(Hormones enter directly into the blood)
