“Resilience is powerful.
But when it comes to health, resilience should never become neglect.”
The recent conversation around actor Sreeleela’s comment on working through period pain has opened up something important. She meant resilience in work which should be highly appreciated, but it should never become neglect!!
Let’s approach this with clarity—not judgment.
🩺 Medically speaking…
Menstrual pain exists on a spectrum.
✔️ Mild discomfort – common, manageable, does not disturb daily life
❗ Moderate to severe pain – needs attention
Because severe pain can be due to underlying conditions like:
• Endometriosis
• Adenomyosis
• Uterine Fibroids
• Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
• Hormonal imbalances & inflammatory states
🚨 Red flags we should not ignore
If periods come with:
❌ Pain that stops you from attending school/work
❌ Vomiting, dizziness, or fainting
❌ Pain lasting beyond 2–3 days
❌ Increasing severity month after month
❌ Heavy bleeding or clots
👉 This is not something to “push through.”
👉 This needs evaluation.
🌿 Where Lifestyle Medicine adds depth:
Through Lifestyle Medicine, we now understand:
Menstrual pain is often linked to inflammation, hormonal imbalance, gut health, and stress physiology.
Healing is possible when we address:
✨ Anti-inflammatory nutrition
✨ Sleep and circadian rhythm
✨ Stress and emotional regulation
✨ Physical activity and metabolic health
✨ Gut microbiome balance
⚖️ The “fine line” we must teach
Yes—resilience matters.
It builds discipline, strength, and confidence.
But here is the distinction:
✔️ Resilience = showing up despite mild, manageable discomfort
❌ Neglect = ignoring significant symptoms your body is warning you about
👉 The line is thin.
👉 But it is critical.
👩⚕️ What young girls and women need to learn
• Not all pain is normal
• Your body speaks—learn to listen
• Seeking help early is strength, not weakness
• Health is not about enduring—it is about understanding.
We don’t need to choose between strength and self-care.
True strength is knowing when to push…
and when to pause. ❤️
If your periods are affecting your quality of life—
please don’t normalize it.
👉 Get evaluated
👉 Understand the cause
👉 Heal at the root cause
