Turn on the lights, or you'll ruin your eyes!
We’ve all heard this. But is it true?

The short answer: NO. Reading in dim light causes temporary eye strain, dryness, and headaches because your eye muscles work overtime, but it does NOT cause permanent vision loss.

WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSES PERMANENT DAMAGE?
1️⃣ UV Exposure: Sun damage accelerates cataracts and macula changes.
2️⃣ High Eye Pressure: Glaucoma silently damages the optic nerve without early pain.
3️⃣ Chronic Health Issues: Uncontrolled diabetes and BP harm delicate retinal blood vessels.
4️⃣ Direct Sun Gazing: Looking at the sun or eclipses burns retinal cells instantly.

BEST PRACTICES FOR READING:
• Position a warm lamp directly over your reading material.
• Balance room lighting when using phones or e-readers.
• Follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look 20 ft away for 20 seconds.

Save your eyes from REAL damage with annual checkups!

Monsoon Eye Care Tip: Is it Viral Pinkeye or Bacterial Conjunctivitis?

Self-medicating with eye drops during the monsoon season can do more harm than good. Dr. Sugato Paul (Amulya Jyoti Eye Foundation) shares essential advice on recognizing conjunctivitis symptoms and when to see a specialist.

24/07/2026

Don’t let the rainy season ruin your vision! 🌧️👁️

Monsoon brings relief from the heat, but the high humidity creates a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses—leading to a spike in conjunctivitis (pink eye), styes, and severe irritation.

Learn these essential rules to keep your eyes safe and healthy this season!

📌 Quick Recap:
1️⃣ Skip waterproof eye makeup (it clogs your glands!)

2️⃣ Throw out eye makeup older than 3 months & wash brushes

3️⃣ NEVER share kajal, mascara, or towels

4️⃣ Always use fresh contact lens solution—no topping off!

5️⃣ Keep unwashed hands away from your eyes

6️⃣ Flush eyes with clean drinking water if rainwater splashes in

7️⃣ Stop self-medicating! Consult an eye care professional

We see a lot of anxiety in our clinic when conjunctivitis spreads, but a big part of that stress comes from unnecessary rumors.

*"I can catch it just by looking at someone."*
Not true! Pink eye isn’t airborne, and eye contact won't transfer it. It spreads through physical touch—mainly via contaminated hands, shared towels, pillowcases, or eye makeup. Keep washing your hands and avoid sharing personal items.

*"Only kids get pink eye."*
While it’s very common in schools and daycares, adults get it just as often. Nobody’s immune!

*"All pink eye is super contagious."*
Viral and bacterial forms are contagious, but allergic reactions or irritation from chemicals/smoke can cause red, swollen eyes without being transmissible at all.

*"I can still wear my contact lenses."*
Please, swap them for glasses immediately. Contacts trap bacteria against your cornea, worsening irritation and increasing the risk of serious complications. Clean your case thoroughly and toss out any infected lenses or makeup used during this time.

When to visit for a checkup?
If your eyes feel unusually painful, you're sensitive to light, or your vision starts blurring, don't wait for it to clear up on its own. Give us a call or visit us.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed your eyes were red and bloodshot? It’s a common sight after a long day, but it can leave you wondering: what’s really going on?

Red eyes can happen for many reasons—lack of sleep, allergies, or even staring at screens too long. But sometimes, red eyes signal something more serious. If you experience persistent redness, eye pain, or vision changes, these could be bloodshot eyes danger signs you shouldn’t ignore.

Knowing when to see an eye doctor is key to protecting your vision. Quick relief for eye pain might be as simple as rest and drops, but don’t wait if discomfort worsens or comes with other symptoms. Your eyes deserve care and attention.

Next time your eyes feel irritated and red, pause and listen to what they might be telling you. Your health is worth it.
